"What a gem of a find, we stayed for one night whilst travelling from England to Spain. We was warmly greeted on arrival and went straight into the pool after a very long day. The host then prepared a fantastic 3 course home cooked meal with wine. Room was spacious, clean and bed comfy, with a wonderful views over the vineyards. In the morning a lovely prepared breakfast outside and the friendly hosts couldn’t be more accommodating. We will 100% be returning each year as we travel to Spain, thank...

"This was terrific value for money and would happily stay again. While it's a good 15 mins or so up a hill from the station, for £40 or so, there's nothing at all to complain about- big rooms with cooking facilities, microwave and even a dishwasher should you need it, a lovely swimming pool and staff who were knowlegable and extremely helpful; particularly Guaytan , who couldn't have been more efficient and personable. All in all, very good."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Douzens?

The best area to stay in Douzens is within the village centre or just on its outskirts, offering a blend of convenience and peaceful countryside. The village centre of Douzens is quite compact, with the main amenities clustered around the Mairie (town hall) and the church. You'll find a local shop for essentials and a boulangerie for fresh bread and pastries, superb for a relaxed start to your day. The streets are generally quiet residential lanes, and the pace of life here is unhurried.Couples looking for a tranquil escape will appreciate staying directly in the village. It offers a genuine taste of rural French life, with easy access to local produce and a chance to enjoy leisurely walks through the vineyards that surround the village. It's an ideal base for exploring the Cathar castles and the Canal du Midi, both just a short drive away. For families, accommodation just outside the village, perhaps a gîte or a villa, often provides more space and private outdoor areas. These properties usually come with private swimming pools, which are a real bonus during the warmer months, and gardens where children can play freely.

When is the best time to go to Douzens?

The best time to go to Douzens is during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October). These months offer pleasant weather, ideal for exploring the local vineyards and surrounding countryside. You'll find warm, sunny days without the intense heat of mid-summer, making it comfortable for outdoor activities like cycling or visiting the nearby Cathar castles. It's also a time when the region's produce is abundant, and local markets are full of fresh, seasonal delights. For those looking to experience the wine harvest, late September and early October are particularly special. This period allows you to see the vineyards in full activity and often coincides with local wine festivals, offering a deeper insight into the region's winemaking heritage.
