The gate and key system were awkward and would have been tough in the dark. At first the property seemed dated, but the next day it appeared charming and we loved the history. Bar soap wasn’t apparent so we bought some. When we went to cook, the lighter was empty (bought one) and the gas didn’t work or was out or we were doing something wrong. We were never able to cook. Not to sell this place short, though, parking and neighborhood was great and a close drive to the city center. The bed was comfortable and soon the charm of the place quickly overtook me. Backyards needed some upkeep but super pleasant if we had the time to enjoy. If you’re looking for a cottage with no TV or microwave, but everything else you need, this is a unique place to stay. We felt sad when we left.

Charming Cottage
We have stayed here previously and enjoyed it as much this time as the first. The location suited us perfectly. The cottage is very clean and the beds are very comfortable. It is well stocked with everything that you need. Ellen is a wonderful host. Thanks Ellen.

The property itself, Is awesome. The main bedroom caters for everyone. The second bedroom is small but will cater for most people but not 6-foot giants. The whole place is very cozy and comfortable. I just wanted to chill out. I was glad I took my laptop and was able to use the WI-FI. There is no TV In the cottage. This is ok for a couple of days. The cottage could do with a Microwave. The nearby takeaways are very generous. So could do with the microwave. All takeaways and grocery shops all within walking distance. If you are renting a vehicle just be aware of the drive way next to the property. This is a great place to stay Would do it again.

The Bakery Grows on you
When we first arrived the old bakery appeared a bit defensive with its tall fences and not a lot of street appeal, but once we went inside it had a cosy homliness about it and was clean and kind to us. Beds were comfortable, lots of power points for device charging, strong jet shower and everything you needed was available. I went to the anytime fitness gym that was just across the road and the supermarket just a couple of minutes walk. While very close to the main street, the actual street was a dead end and nice and quiet. It was very easy to get a car park on the street in front of the house. We really enjoyed our stay and appreciated the easy contact with the owner. Such good value I would recommend.

Fantastic stay
Very tidy. Cute little cottage. Very good location. Perfect accomodation for a few nights. Really enjoyed my stay, would definitely recommend to others and come back. The only thing is the heating is not that great, heat pump doesn’t work very well.

A perfect break in the old Bakery
Was perfect for us.As we are keen walkers we could walk into the centre of the city explore the city and back again. Adorable quiet and very comfortable cottage with everything we needed. Would choose to stay there again.

Rustic charm
We enjoyed being a bus ride out from the city centre, getting to share a bit of the day with locals. We bought a wonderful knitted jacket for a grandchild from the Purple Patch shop just round the corner from the cottage. We found a berry or two to enjoy in the back garden. We arrived after midnight and had difficulty opening the key box. We would have appreciated some milk in the fridge for a cup of tea, but the cupboard was bare. We were comfortable and happy with the welcoming charms of the cottage which is in a quiet area with a supermarket/bottle shop just around the corner. Thank you Ellen. Comfortable stay with good bus connections on the edge of a residential neighboorhood
My wife and I enjoyed our stay. The place was clean and cozy with more than enough space and easy bus connections into downtown (even walkable if one desired, as I did one night instead of waiting for the bus). It was on the edge between the commercial establishments along the main street and the houses a block off. You go one way to the businesses and the other way to past the homes to a park. A KFC was at the end of the street and a supermarket a block away. More coffee and food places are a couple of blocks away. The place was warm enough. The bedroom got a bit cold but the electric mattress pad heated the bed so that we didn't notice. It was a bit hard to use the stove as the numbers were worn off but it worked nonetheless. The back garden was nice to look out upon. The whole place had an eclectic, cozy charm. We would have happily stayed there weeks more than the one week that we did.

Great little Cottage
Lovely little old Cottage tucked away down a side Street from one of the main Streets of Christchurch so easy to find way around. Perfect for a quick weekend away. Only point to note is this is: The first place out of many I have stayed that did not provide hand soap in the bathroom so had to find a supermarket to purchase, so be advised. Other then then that I highly recommend this accommodation if your looking for somewhere to call home while in Christchurch.

We had a nice stay in this delightful period property. It was extremely clean. Please be aware though there is no hair dryer which I discovered only after washing my hair …. The bed in the main bedroom is quite firm so 2 nights was enough for me however that is personal preference. Despite using all the spare blankets we were only just warm enough as there was a heavy frost both mornings. There was a lot of traffic noise from boy racer cars on the Saturday night which kept us awake for a while. However it is a delightful property and we did enjoy our time in Christchurch.

Awesome little cottage
The cottage was cosy and clean and a joy to stay in. My partner and I booked this last minute as we had to rush to Christchurch for a funeral. At very short notice the host kindly let us stay an extra night on top of what we booked, as we ended up needing to stay longer. Definitely recommend booking here, hosts are kind, considerate and easily reachable!

Very enjoyable solo stay over a couple of weeks. Quaint retro feel. Only caveat is anyone staying for a longer period of time may miss the non-period mod cons - there is no TV, washing machine or microwave.
