"We wanted a quiet, rural retreat in a character cottage and this place totally delivered. It may not be for everyone, but we knew what we were getting when we came. The house was built in 1710. The cottage, with its thatched roof has all the character you could ask for. The kitchen and bathroom are modern, well equipped and the sitting area is comfortable. There's a spacious downstairs bedroom that was has been added with two large bedrooms upstairs. The beds are very comfortable. We enjoyed the wood stove on cool evenings and the connectivity and video options. There is no cell service. Lockeridge is an attractive, friendly little village with a good pub. It is only 4 miles from Marlborough, which is a delightful old market town with many eating and shopping options. Just a couple of things to know going in: the ceilings in the kitchen and sitting area and the doorways are what you would expect when it was built. In other words, my head touched the ceiling and I had to duck under the beams and doorways. (I'm 6'2") Also, the stairs to the bedrooms on the first floor are treacherous - narrow treads, with a curve at the bottom, and the risers are exceptionally high. They are not for anyone with mobility issues. Our host was friendly and helpful. Wiltshire is beautiful with rounded ridges offering views and islands of woodland between the pastures. Lots of historical properties and gardens to explore. If this is what you are looking for, we recommend it!"
