The best area to stay in Altstadt-Sud is around the Heumarkt and Alter Markt squares, as these areas offer the most convenient access to attractions and a wide selection of quality accommodation.

The area around Heumarkt, meaning "Hay Market," is a large, open square leading down to the Rhine River. The neighbouring Alter Markt, or "Old Market," is another historic square, slightly smaller and known for its traditional pubs and seasonal markets. For couples looking for a central and engaging stay, the hotels directly surrounding Heumarkt are an excellent choice. From here, it's a pleasant stroll along the Rhine promenade, and you're perfectly placed to explore the historic Old Town with its narrow lanes and traditional shops.
