Upper Manhattan Hotels, New York

"The hotel oversold the rooms and apparently that means the hotel gets to pick and choose who they want to lie to. My room was supposed to be ready at 12, it wasn’t. I literally chose to come stay here because of the bar. Unfortunately I couldn’t see past the horrible front desk experience. I was hoping to like this place so that my family and friends would have a comfortable stay while in NYC. I will never stay here again or subject people that I love to this place. The room I was promised was not what I was given. The lady tried to gaslight me and manipulate the situation. People think I’m extremely young but I’m not and try to treat me poorly based on my appearance. Save yourself the headaches and don’t book here. Here’s the list of things that were not working: the TV wouldn’t go any louder than like a quarter of the volume, there was no refrigerator unless you want to pay $10 per day, there’s one microwave on a certain floor, the noise from the street and sirens at all hours of the day and night, and the food gave me food poisoning. This was my first impression of Harlem and it’s not a good one."

"The staff was so sweet. They letting us drop off our bags before check in and then we were late to check in so they put our bags in the room for us and sent instructions to get in our room. The property felt safe!! "

"Nicer hotel for the area…staff very helpful and provided great customer service. The gym and restaurant on site were convenient and easy to utilize and the restaurant atmosphere was nice and service great. As most NYC Hotels, the rooms, even the larger Studio Suite, are not large. However, the room was clean, uncluttered and included a safe and lil fridge. Parking….if ya bring a car, you gotta park in one of the 2 parking garages in the block the hotel is in. 1 gets busy and on a Friday night it maybe full. The 2nd one was available, until the elevator broke….only addressing this as the amenities Valet Parking…which there isn’t. Would definitely stay here again if I needed an Uptown hotel."

" Cons: * This is not a boutique hotel or even really a hotel to begin with, but more of a simple, small apartment. * The description and images are a bit misleading and do not match reality. * Rooms are dark with insufficient lighting at night. * Old beds with creaky frames and uncomfortable mattresses. * The AC was incredibly loud and did not work well, while the heater seemed to be constantly on. * Check-in time is very restrictive, with a $75 fee for late check-in. * No front desk or on-site staff available for assistance. Messaging only. (And no replies) * No elevator and no luggage storage. * The area feels unsafe especially at night and may not be suitable for tourists. * One of the bedrooms had a strong, unpleasant smell Pros: * The kitchen is well-equipped with a full-size refrigerator, microwave, oven, and utensils. * Amenities include an iron, ironing board, and hair dryer. * Rooms and sheets were reasonably clean. * Convenient location with a bakery next door, a subway station just steps away, and close proximity to Central Park. "

"It depends on what you're looking for. If you want fancy, amenities, this isn't for you. If you're looking for an affordable alternative to stay in Manhattan that is clean, with great owners, in a quiet, safe neighborhood, and just worried about a place to lay your head for the night, then this is the place for you. Being in East Harlem, it's a 3 block walk off the 6 train (2 down and 1 over), we found several excellent places in the area to eat that were clean, with good portions, at prices cheaper than I can eat in CT. We had an excellent experience, and will be staying here again in the future"
