This landmark building in Birmingham city centre was once the home of the city’s Royal Mail sorting office. It was dramatically transformed into a multi-purpose retail gallery that opened to much acclaim in 1998. It is currently undergoing a major update It offers an upmarket mix of designer clothes and luxury accessories, canal side restaurants and a television studio that is open to the public.Fashionistas will be delighted to know that the Mailbox is home to designer brands such as Emporio Armani, Hugo Boss and Harvey Nichols, all offering a great selection of high end clothing for men and women. There are also shops offering lifestyle goods and upmarket homewares. Take a tour while you’re there and you’ll get to see television sets and try your hand at being a TV presenter in the interactive area. You can also observe a show being broadcast live. The tour takes around an hour and a half and there is a fee to take part. Younger visitors will also able to draw and take part in miming activities. Choose from African, Asian or Mediterranean dishes from one of the restaurants both inside the building and outside, overlooking the canal. Opposite the Mailbox you can’t miss The Cube with its striking contemporary architecture. The Cube is a multi-purpose building and is home to Marco’s, one of Michelin-starred chef Marco Pierre White’s restaurants, which can be found on the 25th floor. Visitors can enjoy excellent food while enjoying great views of the city. Birmingham Cathedral and Symphony Hall are within easy walking distance of Mailbox. Birmingham New Street is the nearest station. There are a number of buses that stop nearby and paid parking is available on site. The Mailbox is open every day throughout the year.
