Cadbury World is situated in Bournville approximately 8 kilometres south of Birmingham city centre. The chocolate-themed complex opened in 1990 and attracts over half a million visitors each year. A visit to the centre is always popular with families who come to learn about this world-renowned chocolate maker. The best part is being able to sample the products and take part in chocolate themed events! The complex is vast and spread over 14 different zones, so you should allow at least three hours to enjoy everything on offer. Where possible, it’s best to avoid the school holidays, as these are understandably the busiest times to visit. Pre-booking is also a good idea as queues can be long!Start your journey through the complex at the Aztec Jungle zone and learn about the significance of the cocoa bean in Mexican and Mayan culture as well as how it found its way to Europe and to the homes of the upper classes. Wander round the replica of Birmingham’s Bull Street, where company founder John Cadbury opened his first shop in 1824.Many activities here are of course aimed at children. They will love riding the Beanmobiles Of The Cadabra that pass through different displays including a fantastic chocolate shower. You can also write your name is chocolate in the demonstration area. In the factory, you will learn about the secret ingredients of milk chocolate and how it is packaged.Don’t miss the Bourneville Experience. Learn how this suburb became a chocolate-producing village through the interactive displays. The gift shop here is actually the largest Cadbury’s store in the world and is crammed with gifts, chocolate and souvenirs. Check the Cadbury World website for details of all upcoming events including Easter egg hunts and traditional Christmas theatre productions. Situated in Bournville some 20 minutes’ drive from Birmingham city centre, there is ample free parking on site. The nearest train station (Bournville) is approximately 15 minutes away on foot. br />Opening hours do vary throughout the year. It is therefore advisable to check the official website for detailed opening hours. There is an entrance fee, although children under the age of 4 go free. The last admission is 90 minutes before closing.
