The Pudong Riverside Promenade and Park is a scenic walkway along the east bank of the Huangpu River. This 2.5-kilometre stretch of riverfront has been beautifully landscaped with flower beds and lush lawns.
This is a very popular site with both locals and tourists looking to escape the bustle of the city during daylight hours. You can wander through the gardens or take a seat on one of the benches and watch the world go by. Should you get hungry, there are plenty of kiosks dotted along the promenade selling traditional street food. Alternatively, visit one of the many cafés and restaurants for a more formal meal.
Close by, you’ll find a number of famous Shanghai landmarks. Admire the futuristic Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower, the Jin Mao Tower and the distinctive Shanghai World Financial Center.
If you have children to entertain, make sure you visit the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium with one of the longest underwater viewing tunnels in the world. For serious retail therapy, head to the Super Brand Mall at the foot of the Shanghai World Financial Center to browse the 13 floors of boutiques and fashion outlets. With cinemas and entertainment complexes, it is perfect for everyone.
By night, the promenade draws large crowds of people keen to admire the spectacular panorama. On the opposite bank, the ornate buildings of The Bund are beautifully illuminated, and beams of coloured light sweep across the river’s surface. On the east bank, the skyscrapers of Pudong’s financial centre appear as a myriad of lights reaching high into the sky.
The Pudong Riverside Promenade and Park is open every day. It is located between Dongchang Road and Taidong Road. The closest metro station is Lujiazui, or it can be accessed by bus or river ferry.
