Good, could be better
Good location Clean and warm Overall good. Bring extra toilet paper and dishwasher powder if you are staying more than a couple of days as only 3 loo rolls and a small amount of powder is supplied and not replaced during your stay. Shackleton restaurant had excellent staff and nice food but wouldn’t go there again unless they can fix the smoke coming into the restaurant from the fire place. We felt like we had smoked a packet of cigarettes, our clothes smelled and eyes burned. Felt sorry for the staff working there. There is a thick black stain above the fire place that suggests this has been going for some time. The data allowance of 300mb per day is lousy. Other similar/ lower priced properties would provide unlimited good quality internet access at no extra charge and top ups of loo roll and other basic essentials such as shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, dishwashing liquid and powder. All that said these were minor annoyances and we would stay there again.

Nice Stay But OverRated
We stayed here for 4 nights and weren't that impressed for the price we paid . Nice rooms , but could have got somewhere just as good for less than we paid .It was looking quite run down and needs a bit of a freshen up. The restaurant was closed and that was part of the reason why we stayed there, as its very highly recommended. We ran out of milk on the morning we were leaving and went to reception to see if we could get a small amount for our coffee and was flatly refused and was told we are a resort not a hotel So we won't be back

The mattresses need upgrading, we stayed there a few years ago , they are the same , soft. Also the Restaurant was too expensive for us to go too.

Great accomodation for a weekend of skiing
We come to Methven every year to ski and this was our first time staying at the Brinkley. Close to town, clean and comfortable unit. Would stay again.

Good service from the hosts and nice food at the restaurant on site. Clean rooms with only a short stroll to town and drive to the mountain. Great family ski holiday.

Loved the location, friendly staff and overall setup. Some minor improvements required..devils in the detail - no bin in the bathroom, extra toiletries and towels would’ve been great (given that we were 4 and stayed for 4 nights).

Very outdated resort with rooms that are tiny. Felt very cramped. Bathroom small with no bin. Awkward small stairs to reach our room which were hard navigating with a big suitcase. The free wifi was a coupon that lasted us 30 minutes! Even hostels and bars give better free wifi for streaming video content online. Fine for one night but I was hoping for better. However, good location for easy access to local shops and bars.

When is a resort not a resort?
Brinkley is not a resort. The restaurant was fantastic (and expensive) and this is clearly where all the effort goes. The studio room is tiny - there is no where to out a suitcase. The bathroom had mould around the windows, there was pink sticky stuff on the blanket, dust on the pillow, and lots of condensation in the room. Not a healthy environment at all. We will try somewhere (anywhere) else in Methven next time.

It’s a self cleaning and maintaining faciliaties 4 Stars resort which was not highlighted on arrival. We were charged $80+ for their dish cleaning services. When we are not even provided with detergent for their kitchen washing.

Hi Keen...most hotels in New Zealand have a policy for charging guests when they leave a room in the state you did. Damaged and broken items are charged for as per your confirmation email and the booking slip you signed acknowledging this. Our cleaning staff are more than happy to help and serve you but are not to be treated as your servants. We sent you photos of the disgraceful state you left your apartment with food stuffs scattered around the floor, walls and room. You were also provided with detergent so supplying false and misleading information to this website is a breach of their policies. Please find alternative accommodation elsewhere if you visit again.

We have stayed at many properties for holidays with 2 bedroom apartments in NZ over the last 7 years, this is by far not to the standard of the previous holiday apartments.

Hi...most hotels in New Zealand have policies dealing with charging for broken room items , expectations of payment on departure , controlling noise levels for the comfort of other guests etc. These policies are certainly not intended to offend you but are necessary for obvious reasons. We are a Qualmark 4 Star rated property and receive this rating post an inspection by their team of inspectors.

Love being able to have a wine in the spa after snowboarding. Great location too, close to town for dinner and drinks.

Amazing stay

No the resort is says it is.
We arrived late afternoon with our 1yr old the reception was closed and the bar and resurant were beining refurbished. One of the main reasons we picked here is so we didn't have to leave the complex for diner and breakfast, this was not communicated and for $250 a night very dissapointed. The room were OK but I would class them as Bella Vist quality at Crowne Plaza pricing.

Hello Anonymous, Our restaurant is open for dinner during the winter ski season for a la carte dining. I'm pleased you enjoyed the Dubliner though. Each apartment has a complimentary laundry for your convenience. The apartments have a full kitchen & each studio has a kitchenette & we are fully self contained so ideal for staying in during the summer. All rooms have been refurbished & are modern & warm with new flat screen TV's & 35 sky channels. Also for younger guests we have a children's playground, chip/putting greens & tennis court. I'm sorry you feel we did not meet your expectations on this visit.

We had a lovely stay here in Summer. Unfortunately on the week there was a lot of rain from Cyclone Gita. The room was comfortable and warm and had little kitchenette which was perfect aa it meant we didnt have to go out in the rain. However, with good weather its just a short stroll in to town and the staff were happy to give recommendations of where to eat. Would love to come back in Winter as it is the perfect location to get to Mt Hutt for snowboarding. Although we didnt get to use the facilities including the spa or resturant. They look great

Good room, conveniently situated
The room was a little on the small side and I wouldn't want to spend more than a night or two here, but it was clean and with good facilities, including access to a washing machine and drier. We were there in summer, so it was quiet, but I imagine it would be very lively and fun in the ski season. Friendly staff and convenient for the pubs and restaurants of Methven.

Quite a comfortable stay.
Overall a nice motel. No aircondition though... not sure how to avoid the flying insects with window's and balcony wide opened to allow for airflow.

We payed $145 for a tiny box room, the review on booking said we had a view of the park, we looked out over the car park. Hotel room dated, bed uncomfortable and the fan heater was very loud and rattling? Broken.

Reception not marked clearly & as arrived out of hours had trouble finding unit as numbers were covered by Bush. No tv or wifi for entire stay. Very disappointing even though problem was to be rectified.. Shower pressure weak. Restaurant & bar closed which was a deciding factor in booking. Would not be returning!!

The studio apartment was very small. Half as big again it would have been very nice. We were as far as we can tell the only ones staying. The bar and restaurant wasn't open as advertised on the Web site. Nobody at reception when we arrived or when we left. Hotels.com charged us $145.00. With our key when we arrived was an envelope with a receipt for $123.25. Nobody to explain the difference and very little interest from Hotels.com.
