Quiet town with very friendly folks. Reminds me of Japan before attitudes towards tourists changed. Great hub to visit Izumo and Tottori with a Matsue JR pass.

Only downside of Matsue is that is hard to take taxis to certain places.
"We arrived very early in the morning after a terrible bus ride and the hotel staff we so kind to let us check in early. We really needed the extra time, and it was so appreciated. The facilities are beautiful, and the onsen is the nicest I've seen. Really lovely stay. "
