"I want to start off by saying I had a nice visit, I did the half board option and the food was plentiful and very tasty. Lots of variety, the sushi was not good and their take on Western food isn't great but the Japanese food is awesome. 2 different Onsen areas that alternate gender daily so you can try both. "My family enjoyed our stay at Hotel Tsubakino. We had a traditional Japanese room with a mountain view. The sunset views from our room were very nice. We also enjoyed the private onsen both nights of our stay. The temperature of the water fluctuated so the second night it was really hot and we were unable to stay in the water long. The staff were amazingly attentive and helpful, provided transport for us to see the monkey park and get us back to town in time for our train back. "This property was as traditional as it gets. Two Onsens to bath in. Each have separate times for men and women. Provide multicourse dinner that was as traditional as you can get. The breakfast was multiple items and also a classic meal. Very good. Room didn’t have a view but it had traditional tea set up along with kimonos to wear and traditional bedding. "Close to bus station. Close to stone steps. Older hotel but staff was very nice. Near steep hill, so I walked about 50 yards to ask staff at driveway if this was the hotel I was looking for. Then he ran up the hill to help us with our bags. I was very pleased."

"Such a lovely Ryokan, the staff were all so kind and nice. Super friendly! Explained everything so well and offered pick up from a nearby train station and drop off at local monkey park. The baths were all so different and the vibes were really good. Would definitely go again! I'd recommend everyone to go if you want to stay in the area."

"Very nice and new room with all the kitchen equipment and washing machine, very good service and extremely easy parking. If you really want to be picky, it's that the hotel is inside a mountain and you need to go downhill to get in and out, which is about a 20 to 25 minute drive. Also, our room had a second floor and the one on the second floor was a little hot. But, we still really enjoyed the housing experience, it was all great!"

"During my two-week trip to Japan, one of the most memorable experiences was our stay at Hotel Indigo Karuizawa, An IHG Hotel. The experience was excellent, with warm and welcoming staff. The rooms were spotless and more spacious than others we stayed in. While the location wasn’t as central, with having attractions within walking distance, it was conveniently close to the mall and train station via taxi. Although we didn’t get a chance to try the on-site restaurant, the onsen was a standout feature and a key reason we chose this hotel, despite it being the most expensive of our trip. Out of the six hotels we stayed in, this was definitely one of our favorites, and I highly recommend it."
