The best areas to stay in Javea are the Arenal Beach area for those seeking a lively beach holiday, and the Old Town (Casco Antiguo) for a more traditional Spanish experience.
The Arenal Beach area is Javea's main tourist hub, stretching along a wide, sandy bay. It's characterised by its promenade, often called the 'Paseo del Arenal', which is lined with restaurants, cafes, and shops. The beach itself is a Blue Flag beach, known for its calm, shallow waters, making it ideal for swimming and sunbathing. This area is great for families due to the easy beach access and amenities.
Families will find the Arenal Beach area particularly appealing. The beach provides plenty of space for children to play, and the promenade offers a relaxed environment for evening strolls and ice creams. Many accommodations here cater to families, often with pools and direct beach access.
For those seeking a more authentic Spanish feel, Javea's Old Town is an excellent choice. Perched on a hill a short drive from the coast, it's a labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets, white-washed buildings, and traditional tapas bars. Key landmarks include the Gothic San Bartolomé Church and the bustling indoor market (Mercado Municipal). Couples looking for a quiet, romantic escape often prefer this area.
Couples will appreciate the Old Town's romantic setting and the opportunity to explore its historic charm. Evenings can be spent enjoying traditional Spanish cuisine in intimate restaurants or simply wandering the quiet streets.

When is the best time to go to Javea?
The best time to visit Javea is during the shoulder seasons of May, June, September, and early October, when the weather is warm and pleasant without the peak summer crowds.
During these months, the average temperatures range from a comfortable 20°C to 28°C, great for enjoying the beaches and outdoor activities. You'll find the sea warm enough for swimming, and the walking trails along the coast, such as those leading to Granadella Cove, are much more enjoyable without the intense summer heat. These periods offer a relaxed atmosphere with fewer people, making it easier to secure tables at popular restaurants in the Port or the Arenal.
Couples looking for a romantic getaway will particularly appreciate these months. The evenings are mild, ideal for al fresco dining in the Old Town or a leisurely stroll along the promenade in the Port area. With fewer families around, the beaches and restaurants feel more intimate, and you'll often find better value on accommodation compared to the busy summer period.
For families with younger children, late May, early June, or September are excellent choices. The sea is warm enough for kids to play in, and the main attractions like the Arenal Beach are less crowded, offering more space for everyone to relax.
Where can I find the best nightlife in Javea?
Javea's nightlife is generally more relaxed than some larger Spanish coastal towns, but there are still distinct areas for evening entertainment. You'll find options ranging from quiet drinks to late-night dancing.
The Port area, or Duanes de la Mar, offers a selection of bars and restaurants mostly suiting an older crowd or those looking for a relaxed evening. You'll find pleasant terraces for drinks overlooking the sea, and some venues have live music, often jazz or acoustic sets, particularly during the summer months. It's a nice spot for a pre-dinner drink or a quiet evening out.
The Old Town, or Javea Pueblo, has a few traditional Spanish pubs and tapas bars that stay open late. These are often frequented by locals and offer a more authentic experience. It's less about loud music and more about enjoying conversation and local drinks. Some small squares here become quite lively with people enjoying outdoor seating in the evenings.
Arenal Beach is where you'll find the most concentrated nightlife in Javea, especially during the peak summer season. Along the promenade, there are numerous bars and clubs that play music ranging from commercial pop to house. Many of these venues have outdoor terraces that are popular for cocktails as the evening progresses. Some establishments also feature DJs and live acts, attracting a younger crowd looking to dance until the early hours.
