10/10 Excellent
"This is an excellent place to stay in a quiet and well maintained property. The hostess was so helpful with information about the area. We had a room with a double and single bed. Breakfast very good according to our request. The only minor issue is that the TV was too small for the size of the room. Having said that the fresh eggs from Muriel the hen was very tasty."

8/10 Good
"Stayed here 2 years ago & enjoyed it. Bit disappointed this time. Room tired & needs decoarating & a good clean (alot of dust) Didn't get breakfast. Waited an hour to be told the chef hadn't seen our order so gave us money to go elsewhere, unfortunately didn't have time so didn't eat until later in the day! Tbh they should re-think breakfast service as they don't seem very well prepared. Maybe look at taking orders from guests the day before? Staff are lovely though. Don't think i'd stay again unless rooms decorated & breakfast situation sorted out."

8/10 Good
"Large pub, nice bar/dining room, good decor, parking very handy, eleven rooms, we had a nice large twin bedroom, main road facing little noise good shower, toilet had poor flush, beds comfortable, wardrobe had a extra duvet which smell very badly of sick, i give it to the cleaner then open the windows not to bad after that. Nice setup for breakfast full breakfast not big but enough, staff very friendly. Pub very central for the town and surrounding areas, we were there for the weekend and went out on the Saturday night and found the eight or so pubs in the village were dead"

Le Petit Chateau & William de Percy

Le Petit Chateau & William de Percy

8/10 Good
"Excellent stay when here for an evening wedding party. Booked a meal ( only had 1 course) for before party, which was excellent, very good service too. Drink prices quite high, but I suppose should be expected as is a wedding venue. Breakfast was nice, but had to ask for extra coffee( for 4) twice before getting. Also had to ask for toast as not offered when taking food orders. Poor selection of fruit available and no Greek yogurt even though on menu. For breakfast servings, May I suggest that you offer filtered coffee instead of that from a commercial coffee machine, which would save time . Would certainly stay again should another wedding invitation, for the venue, be received."

Battlesteads Hotel

Battlesteads Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"We really enjoyed our stay for two nights at Battlesteads. Two things really stood out - the food was excellent (except chips - a minor thing), and the staff were consistently friendly, helpful, and welcoming without being overbearing. The last point, about how all staff were nice to interact with, was a major selling point and is why we will return. A special shout out to Dan ("Dan, Dan, the beverage man") for being so helpful and recommending Flyte - a top tip! Ad Gefrin sold two bottles to us as a result! Such a pleasant time, great food, and drink, and an impressive walking guide (which we used) and an observatory on the door step!"

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to go to Fourstones?
The best time to go to Fourstones is during the late spring and summer months, from May to September, when the weather is generally at its finest for outdoor activities.During these months, you'll experience longer daylight hours and milder temperatures, making it ideal for exploring the Northumberland countryside. This period allows for comfortable walks along Hadrian's Wall, which is a major draw to the area, and visiting local attractions without the chill of autumn or winter. For those interested in hiking and experiencing the natural beauty, July and August offer the warmest temperatures and the longest days. This is superb for couples or solo travellers who want to spend full days rambling across the fells or cycling along scenic routes. You'll find many local pubs and cafes open with outdoor seating during this peak season.Should you prefer a slightly quieter visit with pleasant weather, late May and early June, or September, are excellent choices. The landscape is still lush, and the crowds are generally smaller than in the peak summer months.
