The best area to stay in Filleigh is within the village itself, particularly around the Filleigh village green and the road leading to Castle Hill.

Filleigh is a small, quiet village located in the North Devon countryside. The village centre is well-kept, with traditional stone cottages and a historic church. It's quite compact, so everything is within easy walking distance. The main landmark is Castle Hill, a grand Palladian mansion surrounded by impressive gardens and parkland, which is often open to the public.

For couples seeking a peaceful retreat, staying directly in Filleigh is ideal. You'll find a few charming guesthouses and holiday cottages that offer a genuine rural experience.

For a comfortable and enjoyable visit to Filleigh, the best time to go is during the late spring, summer, and early autumn months, specifically from May to September.

During these months, the weather in Devon is generally at its finest, with warmer temperatures and less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the countryside and enjoying outdoor activities. This period allows visitors to fully appreciate the natural beauty of the area, including the gardens and grounds of Castle Hill Estate, without the chill or dampness often associated with other times of the year.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find these months great for leisurely walks through the Filleigh countryside or exploring the nearby Exmoor National Park. The longer daylight hours also provide more opportunity for scenic drives and visits to charming local villages.

Families will also appreciate the mild weather, which is well-suited for outdoor adventures. Activities like cycling, hiking, or simply enjoying a picnic in the expansive grounds of Castle Hill become much more pleasant when the weather is cooperative.
