Pay your respects to the two saints buried in the middle of this gold-domed mosque in the lush district of Nampally.
Admire the huge gold dome of Dargah Yousufain. The mosque is visible all across the district of Nampally, west of the city centre. Constructed during the rule of the Nizams, the mosque still has a large following among many different faiths. It is considered to be a protected heritage site by the Indian government. Tour the ornate interior to see the tombs of the two saints to whom the mosque is dedicated.
A gold arch that matches the dome stands at the entrance to the mosque. Enter and head to the inner sanctum, which is lined with glossy walls covered in beautiful patterns. Look up to see the dome coated with silver on the inside. Verses from the Quran are inscribed into the upper walls of the mosque.
Learn the story behind the two saints entombed in the middle of the building beneath an impressive chandelier. The Muslim Sufi saints are called Hazrath Syed Shah Yousufuddin and Syed Shah Sharifuddin. An orange-and-green sheet is draped over their graves.
