Taramati Baradari is a 17th-century pavilion surrounded by an exciting modern complex with restaurants, bars and a hotel. Legend has it that this age-old structure was built by a romantic prince who wanted to hear his lover Taramati’s voice while he worked at Golconda Fort, 1.6 kilometres (1 mile) away. The building was carefully constructed with good acoustics and built on top of a hill to escape the sounds of the city. Although this is only myth and the building is no longer on a hill, Taramati Baradari does have excellent acoustics due to its cavernous design. Come to tour the building and enjoy the amenities in the surrounding complex.
Head inside Taramati Baradari through one of its 12 arched doorways and envision Taramati’s voice echoing off the walls in the 1600s. Explore the area around the old building to find modern attractions, like a 500-seat theatre and a 1,600-seat outdoor auditorium. There are restaurants and a food court nearby, where you can sample Hyderabad specialties and try various international cuisines.
Get fit at the pool and gym or relax with a drink in hand at the bar. Visit the gift shop, where you can find postcards of Taramati Baradari lit up at night with multicoloured lights. If you’d like to stick around and explore more of the district you can reserve a room at the on-site hotel.
The Taramati Baradari and the surrounding complex are open from morning until night. Entry is free, but amenities like the pool, gym and hotel, as well as shows in the theatre and auditorium, require a fee.
Taramati Baradari lies north of the Musi River in the Ibrahim Bagh district, between Hyderabad and Osman Sagar. Arrive by bus to the Vasavi bus stop and take a short walk to the complex. Come for a full day and visit the Golconda Fort and the Outb Shahi Tombs nearby or stay overnight to make the most of the area’s many attractions.
