"Highly recommend staying at Alcanea. Eva, our host, was incredibly helpful and friendly. The staff/service was great. And the complimentary breakfast offered lots of local options and all were delicious. Best part of this stay was the view and location. The view of the port was awesome with the water, local bars/shops, and mountains in the distance. And there were dozens of restaurants and shops offering all we might need/want. This hotel made Chania feel like home."

Morum City Hotel Chania

10/10 Excellent

"I had a wonderful stay at Morum City Hotel! I was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a Junior Studio Suite with a huge balcony, which was wonderful for sitting outside in the evenings with friends. The staff were fantastic, from the front desk to the housekeeping team. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The breakfast was good, and the location was excellent, with an easy walk down to the harbour. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!"

Nuovo Luxury Suites

8/10 Good

"Great view , lovely clean apartment and pool, which was heated which was lovely, VERY comfortable bed, parking right outside, easy digital access , arrive from lidl side not what sat nav says, really nice apartment built only a few years ago, about 8 min drive to park and ride in town which is perfect , nice neighborhood not noisy at night, drive thru coffee shop 2 mins away and a lidl / local supermarket , beach is about 10 mins away by foot, we walked it although it’s a hill coming back, but it’s a little cove and quite nice , majority of the beaches we’ve tried here so far seem to have a fair bit of washed up plastics on which is depressing, this local beach is sand and offers snacks drinks and sunbeds and a little children’s play area just opposite, there’s a couple of rocks for kids to swim out too which made it fun, breakfast was convenient which the apartment host arranged and was enough for 3 or 4, q com available through a couple of operators so you could arrange your own or buy a yogurt and store in the fridge provided , the spare bed was a temp bed which is very common in Crete But a bit of a pain for a 6ft 15 yr old , overall we really enjoyed our stay , the apartment is lovely and an escape of the hustle and bustles of town, there are enough amenities close by to be comfortable , only 1 minor issue is as others report I didn’t receive the initial access via WhatsApp and had to call , host did answer , sorted in 10, the room with a pool makes it worth it"

Atlantica Amalthia Beach Hotel – Adults only

10/10 Excellent

"This was our second visit to Atlantica Amalthia. Very nice hotel. Everywhere was very clean, our room was a good size (we had a room in the building on the beach side) with nice balcony. Nice bar and restaurant. Breakfast room was nice and good choice of food. Very well kept beach. All of the staff were first class. So friendly, polite and extremely helpful. Visited the spa and had two massages during my stay and both were very nice and relaxing. Definitely recommend. Reasonable price. Didn't use the pool as it got busy very quickly. Sunbeds were very close together and not positioned well that you could get the sun all day. Whilst I enjoy swimming in a pool, we chose to stay on the beach each day. Good location with plenty of restaurants nearby. Recommend Sebastien next door. Absolute gem of a hotel and would definitely recommend it."

Mossa Well Being Hotel with heated pool & Wellness Spa

10/10 Excellent

"Our stay at Mossa Well Being Hotel was one of the highlights of our anniversary trip to Crete. Everything exceeded our expectations, from the beautiful and comfortable room with its spacious balcony to the excellent amenities, including the pool, sauna, and steam room. Breakfast was outstanding every morning, with plenty of delicious options. The location is ideal, just steps from four beautiful beaches and only a short drive from Chania. What truly made our stay special was the exceptional service. The staff were warm, welcoming, and always happy to help. A special thank you to Alexandros for his fantastic recommendations on hiking trails and local restaurants. If we're lucky enough to return to Crete, we'll definitely stay at Mossa again."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Daratsos?

The best area to stay in Daratsos is along the coast, particularly around the Agioi Apostoloi Beach area.

This coastal stretch is popular for its beautiful sandy beaches, clear waters, and convenient access to amenities. It's a relaxed area with a mix of hotels, apartments, and villas, all within easy reach of the sea. There are several organised beaches here, including Agioi Apostoloi and Golden Beach, offering sunbeds and umbrellas.

Families will find this area particularly appealing. The beaches are generally shallow and calm, making them suitable for children. There are also parks and playgrounds nearby, and the area offers a good selection of family-friendly restaurants and cafes. You're also just a short bus ride or drive from Chania Town for day trips.

For couples looking for a relaxed retreat with easy access to both the beach and dining options, the area around Kalamaki Beach, just west of Agioi Apostoloi, is an excellent choice.

When is the best time to go to Daratsos?

The best time to go to Daratsos is during the shoulder seasons, specifically May, early June, September, and October.

These months offer pleasant weather, with warm temperatures great for exploring the beaches and local sights without the intense heat and larger crowds of mid-summer. You'll find the sea warm enough for swimming, and the local tavernas and shops are all fully operational.

For those looking for a relaxing escape with plenty of sunshine but a more peaceful experience, May and October are ideal. The weather is still lovely, but the main tourist rush hasn't begun or has already ended, making it easier to enjoy the beaches and local attractions without significant crowds. You can enjoy strolls along the coast and quiet evenings out.

If you're interested in water activities and a more lively option without the peak summer crowds, early June and September are excellent choices. The sea temperatures are at their best, and all the water sports and boat trips are readily available.
