Step inside and soak up the history and culture of the “Music City’s” favourite genre.With a collection so extensive that only 10% of it can be displayed at any given time, this hall of fame contains countless photographs, posters, original recordings, instruments and stage costumes, not to mention reels upon reels of film and television footage. It is also home to 98% of all pre-war recorded country music.The museum’s core, permanent exhibits “Sing Me Back Home: The Journey Begins, Folk Roots to the 1960s” and “Dreaming My Dreams: The Journey Continues, 1960s to Present” tell the story of country music from its humble, folk roots in the 19th century right through to its current position as one of America’s favourite music genres. Marvel at the artefacts cased in glass, read about the music and its makers, or better yet, let the music itself do the talking. As you wander around, catch a glimpse of the museum staff working 9 to 5 in the two-storey, glassed-in central archives, home to the museum’s vast collection.Be sure to stop by the Hall of Fame Rotunda on your way out where plaques of each and every Hall of Fame recipient adorn the walls, from Johnny Cash to Dolly Parton.Fancy visiting a place where music history has been made? Then make your way over to the Historic RCA Studio B on Music Row, house of the hit-makers, and take a guided tour of the legendary studio where over 35,000 songs were brought to life, including chart-toppers such as “I Will Always Love You” and “Are You Lonesome Tonight”.Enjoy a meal or snack at the museum’s renowned Two Twenty Two Grill, and pick up some souvenirs for the music lovers back home in the museum giftshop.Located in central Nashville, close to Riverfront Park, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is open every day apart from public holidays.
