Bring the kids along to this fun, interactive museum where they can get a workout for their bodies and their brains.
Organised logically around the five human senses, plus two sections on dinosaurs and outer space, the Adventure Science Center is an easily navigable, entertaining day out for all the family. At the core of the building is the Adventure Tower. The tower is four storeys high and is essentially one giant educational playground. Some of the features of the tower include a giant piano that the kids can walk along, a wall that will freeze your shadow, and a parachute design experiment. The kids can even burn off some of that extra energy by pedalling their way to the top with the bicycle-powered lift. When you finally reach the top, you can step into a massive walk-in globe and get some of the best views available anywhere across Nashville city centre. The BodyQuest exhibit on the second floor will teach you all ever wanted to know (and plenty of things you didn't) about how your body functions. Make your way through a human digestive tract or look beneath your surface with the centre's x-ray machine, stopping along the way so the kids can take control of the resident ambulance.Head to the Space Chase wing to find out how much you would weigh on each of the planets in our solar system – some of the numbers might surprise you! Follow this with a zero-gravity trip in Moonwalker and a spot of interplanetary gaming in the form of Cosmic Ray. Round your outer space adventure off with a visit to the Sudekum Planetarium to explore the stars that shine above Tennessee and far beyond. For those with limited time, the centre can be seen fairly well in about a half a day. For those with a little more time on their hands, the day can be broken up with a visit to the on-site café or a pause for a picnic lunch. The Adventure Science Center is open every day except for Christmas Day and Thanksgiving. It can get very busy here on weekday mornings when the school tours arrive so, if you are visiting during the week, it might be an idea to plan your visit for the quieter period after lunch. The centre is located opposite Fort Negley Park in central Nashville and is easily accessible via the MTA bus network.
