"Comfortable and convenient to Beijing's third ring"
On checking in, we were told that we were booked in the Garden Tower, which was an old structure from 1987 and showed its age, and were encouraged to upgrade to the Valley Tower, that was only a few years old. I was surprised at such a significant disparity in the condition of the two towers, especially at the Shangri-la. I am glad we upgraded as the rooms in the Valley Tower are spacious and well appointed. From a walk-in closet to a bathroom with a TV built into the mirror, there are a lot of delighters. The staff is very friendly and eager to help. I didn't have the opportunity to eat at the hotel so I can't comment on their food service.
This was a lovely hotel situated in very busy area but 10 minutes fast walk to nearest subway. Excellent shopping centre on same road. Plenty of authentic dining in centre and great supermarket in basement for supplies. Gym small but functional. Swimming pool excellent and plenty of room for lap swimming. Breakfast a multi -cultural affair with everything one could possibly want.
I typically visit Beijing 3-4 times a year for business. The Park Plaza has been my primary go to place when I visit. While in the past, I've been very pleased with the accommodations, this list trip was disappointing. The "Superior" room that I had booked was very worn - stains on the wall paper, desk chair was broken, etc. The normal morning buffet was very limited, almost like they were making enough food for only 1-2 guests. The food selections at the other restaurants on site wasn't much better - very limited. I'll be headed back to Beijing at the beginning of 2015 and will give the Park Plaza one more try. Hopefully this was a one time occurrence but if not, I will likely be switching my business to another hotel.
The hotel is located close to a metro Station. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and some of them know English which makes conversation easier. The breakfast is OK but for Chinese standards there isn't a lot of choice and the quality is not overwhelming. The coffee, however, is very good. If you do not need the executive lounge, stay in a normal room. There is no difference between the normal rooms and the executive rooms (at least as I experienced it).
