My seven-day stay at Shangri-La was wonderful and everything I expected from a 5-star hotel. Another nice perk was that in-room wi-fi was free. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The only minor downside is that the hotel is located about a 20 minute walk from the nearest subway station.
Another tip -- there is a nice local supermarket called Uni-Mart located about a 5 minute walk from the hotel (exit the front entrance and make a right) where you can get any food/household items for relatively cheap prices.
We chose this hotel/serviced apartment for our visit to Beijing to visit our daughter whilst studying at BFSU - just a short taxi ride away. It was an indeal location, felt very safe, just a short walk to the subway, with its cheap, frequent, clean trains. It is also a short distance by train to the Summer Palace & Fragrant Hills; Beijing Zoo and with easy access to the rest of the City. The rooms were clean, spacious, had plenty of wardrobe space & provided us with full cooking facilities, a dining table and washing machine. There was plenty of room for a roll-away bed when required. Staff very friendly and attentive. Breakfasts were good with plenty of choice. Great pool. Convenience store close by, together with choice of good restaurants. Would certainly return to this Hotel.
It is located next to Peking University and next to some very accessible streets (if this is possible in Beijing). I found the hotel well kept and the staff very helpful and friendly. I enjoyed staying there very much and made my stay in Beijing very comfortable.
Stayed at Ariva double storey suite from 30th June-13th july ( Room 1303) and on 22nd July ( Room 1246). Both suites are superb, room 1303 is near the lift but 1246 is like a 150m walk to the lift. Ask for non smoking floor if you do not smoke and also a room near to the lift.
Love the glass panel attached bathroom on the second floor. I slept very well all the nights I stayed in the hotel. And they have a distinctive "Ariva scent" to all their toiletries, i never used those things provided by hotels, but those from Ariva - I really love them. They allow you to place your luggage after you checked out, i kept mine over there for 10 days when I head over to Inner Mongolia. Late checkout is at 2pm, you just got to request from them.
This is a great hotel from which to explore Beijing. It is very close to Peking and Renmin Universities. However you will need to travel a bit to get to the Tiananmen square and the Forbidden city. Having said that, the hotel is very close to metro lines 4 and 10 which makes moving around very easy. The hotel itself was great, with very professional staff and very comfortable rooms. Don't miss the breakfast buffet, which is excellent.
We chose this hotel because of its proximity to BUAA (Beihang University) and once we arrived, we found that it was immediately adjacent to the school building that we were interested in. It also has easy access to the Xitucheng stop on the subway, just one block (Chinese block) up the street. Since it is by the school, there are also many restaurants nearby, including American fast-food, Korean, and various Chinese styles. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and welcoming; their English was very good. We pre-paid the rooms on Expedia and had no problems there. The room was as nice as any 4+ star in the US and nicer than any 5 star in Beijing where I have previously stayed. The bed was quite comfortable and the view from the 19th floor was beautiful (Olympic park, the mountains, the universities). The bathroom was quite spacious with a large tub and stand-alone shower with great water pressure. It is about a 100 RMB ($15 to 17USD) taxi ride from the Capital airport, which is easier than taking the subway if you have much luggage at all (and almost cheaper if you have more than two people).
