I don't recall on the Hotel's description here on Expedia or on their own website that the deposit was $400 up front. I stayed for 6 days so that should have been around $170. "The highlight of this place for us was the location - a very easy 5 minute walk to old town, and also Macy’s in the other direction. The room size is fine and as expected. There was a fridge and microwave which was a bonus we were not expecting. The air con worked well. Shower temperature and pressure were good. On the down side, the bathroom had a strong urine smell but since you couldn’t smell it in the main room, we didn’t bother reporting it as we had already made ourselves comfortable....

"This hotel dates to the 1850's, so it's not your cookie-cutter chain hotel. The elevator looks close to original equipment, and the lobby is full of funky mementos of the hotel history. But the room was clean, the bed very comfortable, the staff friendly, and you can't beat the location if you are visiting Placerville."
