had a wonderful time in a beautiful city I wish we has of stayed a few extra days so that we could of done a few more of the sights and shops there was so much to see and not enough time to pack it all in.
We were looking for a B&B which was close to the city centre and found it at Halcyon House.
Large spacious room with everything you could need, parking at the door and only a few minutes walk to the Royal Mile.
Be prepared to be overwhelmed by the breakfast. You could not ask for better.
Our hosts, Catherine and Stuart, congenial, charming, and gracious, were extremely helpful and accommodating -- helpful in providing practical information about transportation and sites; accommodating in ensuring that our visit was comfortable. The B & B, actually the family home (built in 1881) in which Catherine herself grew up, has been lovingly refurbished to accent the elegance of earlier ages yet with the comforts of modern times, such as unobtrusive flat-screen televisions.
The host was fantastic. He genuinely cared about the wellbeing of all of his guests not just me. He was incredibly helpful and pleasant and took an interest in all his guests. Breakfast was yummy and there was a big variety, fruit, cereals, toast, scones, cheese.
The room was extremely comfortable, if I wasn't in Edinburgh, I would have happily stayed there all day. Powerful, warm showers. Clean, tidy bathrooms and rooms, freshly furnished each day, it was a pleasure to return home.
I felt like I was at home, not on holiday, which was excellent. T
Easy to walk, get a bus ride, or taxi from the centre of town. A straight walk. Affordable price. Great place to stay.
If I wasn't a student, I would have been able to tip more. Highly recommended. :)
Good value for money considering prices of other hotels at the time we stayed, clean condition. Bathroom could do with modernising and a lick of paint but not as bad as it sounds. We stayed in a family room (sleeps 4) we got 2 (huge) single beds and a king size double!!! Reading previous reviews we were slightly worried but ended up being pleasantly surprised :) the room included a kettle with tea and coffee and a free view tv. The only thing we needed was a couple more pillows but other than that a nice place x
Stayed for 1 night, read reviews but was pleased to see room was very clean, en-suite was adequate, no night time noise. Receptionist on duty did not speak much English but had no problem in booking in. Parking was a little difficult.
I have stayed in this hotel during Tattoo period. Location is nice (about 10 minutes walk from the central).
The owner of this hotel was very friendly and we had a very nice stay here. Toilets and shower are separated from the room, however both clean and comfortable.
Right in the heart of the city centre, the Lyncliff is a centrally positioned Edinburgh hotel near Carlton Hill . All of …More
