Prime location with fly fishing on your back doorstep. Very peaceful & tranquil setting with all the home comforts you need for a well deserved break or holiday. Purfect for a relaxed stay
For me, I was looking for a quiet spacious place to do some work and explore the area. Couldn't be better, although I wish that neighbours in NZ would be a little bit more considerate with music playing till late. But that is not a Turangi only problem ;)

I’m very sorry about the neighbors! I have spoken to the rental agent about their loud music but it is difficult to get any action on it! I’ll be contacting them again to see if we can get it sorted!

Very pleased with the facilities in the house. Has a lovely homely feel and couldnt be closer to the river. A lovely private setting. We also did well with the trout fishing so all round we had a great stay

Relaxing home away from home. Bach was clean and tidy and had everything (and more) that we needed. Games and bikes were greatly appreciated. Perfect base to explore surrounding areas. Would love to come back.

Enjoying stay, but..
The house was well presented with a rustic feel, and in a beautiful spot right next to the river with trees surrounding the property. We liked the history of the house connecting with the family, and lots of interesting old books to read. Everything worked well, pots and pans could do with an update but over all pretty good. Only negative was the next door neighbour was very noisy with loud music for 3 nights which was a disappointment when we expected it to be quiet according to the description and reviews.

I’m very sorry to hear that you had a noise problem with the neighbors! If I had known I would have rung noise control! They are usually very quiet or not at the house at all!

A home away from home
We loved our stay here. Simple, comfortable, everything we needed, it was a home away from home. The setting was beautiful, lush green view out the windows and from the lounge room you can watch people fly fish on the Tongariro River. It was great to be out of the Taupō bustle but still close enough to all the activities. This is definitely a place we would love to come back to.

A pebble’s throw to the River is this clean family home. My son and I spent a great week fly fishing. Relaxing surroundings. Easy folk to deal with; we’ll be back for sure!

Lovely home
Perfect spot next to the river. Plenty of fishing spots within walking distance, and easy access to the walking track for those who would rather walk than fish. The house had everything we needed. Loved the nice warm fire. Chris and co went out of their way to make sure we had plenty of firewood for our stay. Comfy beds as well. Would definitely stay again.

A beautiful stay. Perfectly located for a quick trip to the snow, lots of short and not so short walks, warm sunny days in the chilly water catching trout. The house is well stocked with fire wood and board games for cozy evenings in. It is comfortable and has everything you need. We love this place, right on the river.

Not quite meeting expectations
Lovely position across from the Major Jones Pool But We had no hot water for the entire stay. The power was on and checked but water temp was tepid at best very cold showers after a hard days fishing coming back cold and tired was a huge concern The house smelt dank and old with the aroma of old pipe tobacco Very unpleasant Water traps in sinks and showers partially blocked needing cleaning For a fisherman’s retreat the absence of a suitable area to clean our catch was disappointing The house was cold and run down and although marketed as an old style batch it would only meet the description of being “old” Very disappointing. We contemplated decamping to a warm and inviting motel but as we had already paid for our house we chose to stay. We have been renting fishing accommodation in the area over the last 30 years but this would be the worst We expect an apology or an explanation for the lack of hot water if not a suitable recompense

Very sorry that you had a negative experience! Cold water is unacceptable in anyone's language! If you had rung me I would have sorted it asap! We had a new cylinder put in recently and the plumber could have been called immediately! As to the smell of pipe smoke, our Bach is smoke free and we have a cleaner check the house after each visit! The fireplace being used can leave a smoky smell at this time of the year. I have spoken to our cleaner and she can confirm that the house was clean and in good order before your visit. I am very disappointed that you didn't give us a chance to rectify the water problem! Chris

G and I loved our stay here. We took our bikes and used them on the river trail, visited the Trout Hatchery and Waiouru Army museum, both of which we recommend and caught one trout. Charming house close to everything.

It is retro because we want to maintain our memories of fabulous family holidays! We use the coal range for cooking but have tried to ensure we have most modern home comforts as well! We enjoyed our time in Turangi, the bach was perfectly situated for us to explore the surrounds which included Taupo and Mt Ruapehu. The view of the river and being able to watch the men and women fly fishing was an amazing experience! Bach was cosy and inviting, definetly will be returning!

I am a keen fisherman and could walk to a bunch of good spots on the river. The house is cute in a ol' skool kind of way (it has a coal range for instance) and the bedrooms are nice and cosy. I would suggest taking a box of the dry kindling that you get at the supermarket so you can get a fire going fast as I couldn't find small axe etc for making it (maybe it was under the house).

Great fishing trip
Great location close to the Tongariro River and centre of town. The lovely warm fire was well used during a cold August week, which was great to come back to after a day's fishing. This was our second stay at the house, and we hope to be back next year.

Spectacular views of the river
Lovely classic kiwi batch that’s right beside the most famous pool on the Tongariro river. We could literally watch fish being caught from the lovely picture window. The house flows well with two bed rooms plus an outside covered deck. The insert wood burner was perfect not too hot just enough to keep the lounge pleasantly warm. The kitchen was well stocked and easy. The main bed was super comfy and the shower had plenty of hot water. Friendly helpful hosts. We will be back.

Thanks for the use of your holiday house - it was clean and had everything we needed. Kids particularly enjoyed the fire place. A good base for exploring Ruapehu with the kids.

Thanks Rose, Turangi is a great spot for accessing the mountain and if the weather is no good there are other things to do around the river!
