Overall, a decent hotel to stay in. We were there for a week and stayed in shinjuku because we thought it was central for many of the areas we were intending on visiting. The room is small, only room for shoes and 2 full sized luggages to remain open. Otherwise, your shopping bags will have to start piling up on the little couch. This is typical for Japanese hotels. We had issues with the AC and had to have the front desk reset the AC unit. After they did that, it was fine. Convenient with a Lawson’s store downstairs for water and last minute items.
Now, the area. Kabukicho area in Shinjuku is known to have the highest crime rates in Tokyo (didn’t know this prior) and you’ll notice a lot of bars, hostess bars, girls holding signs on the sidewalk, Nigerians trying to lure men into these bars or massage parlors, etc. Didn’t feel safe area. Always needed to do a headcount with our group to make sure we were all there as we walked the streets looking for places to eat. Most places had good food, a lot of MSG so you’ll feel a little thirsty and swollen by end of day, lol! Please be sure to check your bill. I think sometimes they take advantage of the tourists.
Anyway, we had a good time overall and this hotel was convenient. Also, take the shinjuku-sanchome stop off of the Marunouchi line as this stop is closer to the hotel versus the shinjuku main station stop.
