Nice quaint room. It wasn’t cleaned properly as there was still food from previous guests in the fridge, this prompted me to look inside the kettle and the kettle was old and flakey leaving me to decide that I did not want a hot drink. The property itself was beautiful but the amenities and cleanliness let me down personally

The rooms were basic and clean. Water pressure was minimal. Given it’s nowhere near any town, not unexpected. The walk to the beach was good and surroundings were amazing.

Our stay wasn't an unpleasant one and the staff did everything to help only, the communication was difficult seeing the receptionist didn:t speak English. Other than that was everything average.

Good stay but bring your food with you!
We stayed for one night, the room was clean with a comfy bed, full use of the kitchen including a stove, microwave, kettle and fridge. There was a large communal lounge area and two showers in our lodge which was plenty. Make sure you bring your food with you as there are no supermarkets for 40 minutes from the property and few restaurants that are expensive if you’re on a budget.

We loved this accommodation! Such a neat experience staying in the middle of NZ native bush land right on the coast. Super close to where we wanted to be & it had everything we needed & more than expected. Very cool experience whether you are a kiwi or international traveller

Location is good but need to do bit maintenance
Shower pressure and room is ok, just have mosquitoes and sand flies in the room cant slept well while they are around noisy. Walking distance to Truman track and we even walked to Pancakes Rock. Toilet needs to upgrade bit shaky while sat down.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay. Sandflies are a big part of the West Coast and also the eco system. Unfortunately we and our guests have to accept them, closing windows and doors before sunset is the best thing to do really. My partner and I took over Te Nikau Retreat this year in lockdown - you'll be happy to hear that we are trying to upgrade everything since then. Thanks to covid this will be a very long and hard process.

Lovely location as pictured. The room was adequate but a bit tired and panel heater struggled to keep warm in our winter stay. Communal full kitchen worked well.

Not a good place to stay in a beautiful location.
The young lady at the reception desk was very nice and tried to be helpful but didn’t have much to work with. WiFi ranged from didn’t work to very slow, no TV, no basic amenities in the bathroom, metal floor in the shower was very slick, bugs in the bathroom, the sink had individual hot and cold faucets that were so close to the back of the sink it was difficult to wash your hands. Walls are very thin, no sound proofing and got maybe 3 hours of sleep because of the loud snoring in the room next to ours...this place could have been a great place to stay but until the owners address these issues, I would recommend some place else!!

Unfortunately due to being a remote location the WiFi does come and go and we don't provide TV, to promote people to explore the beautiful nature in the area. We are also located in a jungle so it can be difficult to keep the bugs from coming inside. We hope you enjoyed the beautiful location!!

The property is in an amazing location! You feel as if you have your own little place in the jungle. Five minute walk to an incredible beach, as well. We stayed in The Hideaway cabin and I don't think the lounge chair pull-out was suitable as a bed for an adult, as it was quite uncomfortable. Other than that, I highly recommend this place.

The receptionist, Julia, was so friendly and helpful I would rate her as one of the top 5 I have ever met out of hundreds I have met. The units are set amongst the forest so are very quiet and private Our Tui cabin was very comfortable. Minus:The sink in the bathroom was very worn .

The best asset of this property was the receptionist Julia she was very pleasant and extremely helpful, the other person at reception (a Male) was also very friendly. We stayed in the Tui cabin which had everything we needed, it is down the road from the main part of the lodge and thus was secluded surrounded by trees and ferns. It was also close to the parking lot. One negative of the Retreat was the final section of the access road to the lot. It is quite steep, narrow and has a sharp turn. The combination meant it was difficult to see where you were going. Inside the cabin was comfortable, the bed was good, the shower large with a good hot water supply. The shelf in the bathroom was handy but some towel bars would be a good addition. The sink was small and very worn and overdue for replacement. The unit was fairly clean but corners and windowsills were dusty and the floor a little gritty. Another bonus is the excellent German style bread which was delicous and made on sight. All in all a quiet pleasanr place to stay and still just off the main highway.

A lovely hidden away treasure! Enjoyed the peace and tranquility of this property situated in the forest. Especially recommend the walk down to the beach (as recommended by the staff) There were a few insects at dusk which were easily controlled. If your looking for a simple quiet place to stay this is definitely it!

Tucked away in a quiet area, the hostel was really nice. We stayed for a nice in the main Lodge. The lodge has a lounge area with a small shop in the kitchen. All in all a very good stay

Great location
For the price, the location is great and the room was fine. The bathrooms and showers are in a shared space in the main lodge and rooms attached to the lodge.
