One of Orlando's most famous sporting venues is a vast arena that hosts NBA basketball, ice hockey, soccer and concerts by top show business names.
Cheer on sporting stars or watch some of the world’s most famous musical acts at the Amway Center, a large sports and entertainment complex in the downtown area. Behind the metal and glass exterior with its 180-foot (55-meter) tower is a large arena with seating for more than 20,000 spectators. The venue is home to ice hockey, football and basketball teams including the Orlando Magic who play in the NBA (National Basketball Association).
Arrive at least a couple of hours before a match or concert to enjoy Amway Center’s many attractions. Go to the Magic Fan Experience on the Terrace Level for exhibits that chart the history of the Orlando Magic. There are also player biographies and lots of photographs. Test your skills on the interactive simulation basketball game. At Orlando Magic Fan Fest, take part in quizzes and interactive games and listen to live music. Play touch screen games at digitalLOFT in the main lobby area. Young children will love exploring Stuff's Magic Castle, a play area where they can climb through the castle and shoot baskets.
Then take your seat for some sporting action or live music. During matches you can also watch events unfold on the huge high definition video board and more than 1,000 monitors throughout the building. It's unlikely that you'll ever lose track of the score as there is a 42-foot (12.8-meter) high scoreboard with more than nine million LEDs. For snacks, meals and drinks, take your pick from the numerous casual and upscale bars and restaurants.
Among the many other events held at the Amway Center are conferences, orchestral performances, wrestling contests, indoor soccer games and motorsports exhibitions. Check the center’s website for an up-to-date list of what’s going on.
The Amway Center is situated in downtown Orlando and is accessible by several bus routes. Drivers will find metered parking areas in the immediate vicinity including two that are adjacent to the arena.
