Wellington's Oriental Bay Beach is regarded by many as the city's own miniature Riviera. With one of the most prestigious addresses and some of the finest houses in the capital, the beach and promenade of Oriental Bay are well worth a visit. Oriental Bay Beach is also within easy walking distance of the city centre, so there really is no excuse for missing out.Swimming is a popular activity here. The gentle slope out to sea makes it very safe, with swimmers having to travel quite far from the shoreline before they are out of their depth.If swimming's not for you, you could always just relax on a chosen spot in the sand and admire the view. This is located right next to the Freyberg swimming pool, with its 25-metre main pool and heated indoor paddling pool for younger children.After all that activity, you're bound to have worked up an appetite. With everything from a restaurant on a tug boat to fine local cuisine, visitors to Oriental Bay are spoilt for choice.As it's located so close to the city centre, the easiest way to get to Oriental Bay Beach is to walk. However, for those who choose to drive, there is parking by the promenade and adjacent to Freyberg Pool. There are toilet facilities at the beach, and there is also wheelchair access to nearby Freyberg Beach.
