Hideaway is quiet, except for the rooster, clean and comfortable. The pool looks bigger in the photos, but is only a plunge pool. Stove and microwave dated, but owners in process of updating. Thanks Deborah for your review........... yes, as you have discovered, the island is very hilly and there are a lot of narrow driveways! .... properties like ours were not created under planning schemes where easy access was mandated. We are working towards offering some dinner parties when our renovations are completed. Building work on Norfolk Island is a slow process due to the shipping every 3 months. When renovations are completed we will be creating a new website to make better explanations about things like the pool size. We 'inherited' the current website when we purchased Hideaway last year. Shortly we will be installing a sauna near the plunge pool for everyone's enjoyment. Also upright stoves are very common here .... and maybe you could let us know why you considered the microwave 'dated'?Meanwhile we will continue to use low gear to negotiate the driveway ..... and advise our guests to do the same. (smile) Wild chooks abound on island and we cannot stop the roosters from crowing BTW.

Absolutely a hideaway as the name of these apartments indicate. Friendly hosts and only too happy to accommodate. Property is aged but in the process of rejuvenation. Lovely place to stay. Thank you Ruth & Beresford.👍

Thank you Cheryl .... we are so happy you've enjoyed your stay with us. And yes, we are continuing with our rejuvenation work .... recently we've had some original tracks through the forest area cleared to make them accessible for our guests to enjoy the scenery.

It was a nice quiet area but quite run down & mouldy. New owners learning the ropes & had a lot on their plate. We were greeted wonderfully at the airport & escorted to our stay. No input during the week personally. We went to were there house was being renovated to ask questions. Very friendly & nice when approached. Lots to learn …

The fact that your mesage i got from hideaway through you after booking could not be replied to without going to the hideaway website resulted in a last minute panic to hire a car.Please make it clear.All praise for Karen for a nice stay.

Our second stay here in 8 months. On this occasion we booked the chalet which is completely separate to the other guest accommodation. Is is one bedroom with a king size bed that converts to twin beds if required. The Retreat is quiet and peaceful, even with a full compliment of guests staying. Karen is a superb host and is a great credit to the property. We thought this might be our last visit to Norfolk Island given the world has re-opened but it is just such a relaxing place, so beautiful and the history is extraordinary. We’ll be back and I don’t think we would consider staying anywhere else.

We really enjoyed our time here. The apartments are clean, comfortable and have mesmerising views of the hillside. There are some basics - tea/coffee etc - to get you started but as we don’t often stay in self contained apartments, remember to bring your own shampoo. We loved the location, far enough away from the town centre but close enough to walk to although we were dreadfully lazy in that regard. We were met at the airport by the lovely Wendy and followed her back to the retreat in our hire car. The manager, Karen, was in constant contact with us prior to arrival due to the lockdown restrictions but we were fortunate not to have our travel plans disrupted. Many reviews mention Karen’s hospitality and she is certainly a great asset to the retreat. As for the island itself, it is truly magical and had it not been for COVID we probably would have never travelled here. We are already planning to return.

Close to town but secluded in natural country surroundings. You do need a car there as it is too far to walk more than once a day. The hotel manager will organise a car for you. Fully self contained apartments so you can do your own cooking and catering.

Have stayed at Hideaway before, nice and private. Not upmarket but very clean and tidy. Good value for the price. Desperately needs a new stove, it's about as old as me. Loved the grounds and the chookies and birdlife.

karen met us at the airport with our car then we follow her back to the retreat,karen then help with the bags up to our unit,very nice,whay a view,karen went over what what we expected by a huge amount,very clean in side the car was great,karen then let us know what was on the island to see and places to visit plus the huge amount of tours,i can go on for a while but ,the retreat was great,i go again,yours june max

Nice quiet spot to relax with our family great location and John the owner couldn't do enough to make our stay great highly recommend the hideaway to anyone wanting to come to the island

Comfortable and friendly
We loved our stay. It was comfortable, car ready at the airport, loved the location and the lovely garden with the orange trees and avocados.

Beautiful landscape and friendly local people. Tours by both island companies excellent. Hideaway Retreat very good . Kerryn the duty manager warm and accommodating. Our unit was comfortable, clean and inviting.

Spacious apartments located in spacious grounds but close to Burnt Pine and the National Park. Grounds include an orchard with rain forest margins and Norfolk Is pines. Apartments are well equipped and include loan of a Norfolk Island mobile phone and a wi-fi hotspot.

Beautiful Norfolk Island
This is a great place to 'chill out'. Everything moves at a leisurely pace - even max speed limit on the island is 50kph, less in town. Wonderful views everywhere you turn, coupled with safe swimming beaches. Every whim of the tourist is catered for. Fruit trees everywhere to help yourself. This was our second visit to Norfolk Island, and in 10 days we still didn't see or do everything we would have liked. The residents are friendly and helpful.

The various websites do mention that some of the units are located upstairs but I will try and see if I can find a way to make this information clearer so that guests booking can request a downstairs unit if needed and dependent on availability. A wonderful retreat
Fully self contained apartment tucked away surrounded by beautiful trees and gardens and birdlife. Although it feels you are hidden away you are actually only a two minute drive from the main street of town. The staff are friendly and the rooms comfortable. You can even pick fruit straight off the trees for your snacks!
