When you come to the Niagara Falls, there are plenty of choices. Venture behind the spray, head to the foot of the waterfalls, or – if you take a ride on the SkyWheel – enjoy a panoramic view over the area on a gondola. Hop on board and you can go from east to west from the Canadian side of the falls, and see both American and Horseshoe falls, as well as trace the course of the Niagara River as it flows downstream. In the distance, you’ll be able to make out the restaurants and entertainment spots at Clifton Hill.
Reaching a height of 53 metres in the air, the SkyWheel was first opened in 2006 and has already become a popular attraction for visitors who want to see the region from this unique bird’s eye vantage point. Each of its 42 gondolas is climate-controlled, allowing for a relaxing and pleasant experience as you travel through the air. Each capsule seats six people, meaning you can share the fun with friends and family.
As you take the ascent, you’ll see the life-like dinosaur head facing you, which will take you by surprise if you’re not prepared for it peering at you through the gondola window. Children in your party will love this spectacle. When you get off the wheel again, stop for a round at the mini golf course, located at the base of the SkyWheel. Also, stay on the look out and see if you can spot the other dinosaurs lurking around the place.
The gondola ride takes three to five revolutions to complete its journey, which lasts between eight and twelve minutes. The number of revolutions depends on how long the queue is, so if you come during the high season, rides will be shorter. Bring your camera with you to capture some of the extraordinary views of the falls beneath you.
Situated in Niagara Falls’ Clifton Hill area, the SkyWheel is open to visitors every day throughout the year, with extended opening times in the summer. You can get your ticket online for the SkyWheel only or as part of a Clifton Hill Fun Pass, which will give you admission to the other attractions around this spot.
