The Ngong Ping 360 cable car ride offers spectacular vistas across the hills of Hong Kong’s largest island. Starting in Tung Chun, an urban area of Lantau Island, you will cross Tung Chung Bay and head up towards the hillside village of Ngong Ping. It's well worth doing this on a cloudless day, because the views are simply breathtaking.You have the choice of taking the trip in the Crystal Cabin which has a glass bottom and, though the tickets for this are more expensive, the queues are generally shorter. Whichever option you do go for, try to book ahead if you can as it could end up saving you several hours of queuing, especially on weekends and holidays when the Ngong Ping 360 becomes a particularly popular attraction.The 25-minute ride takes you past Hong Kong International Airport and Tian Tan (or "Big Buddha") before the 360-degree view of the Ngong Ping Plateau unfolds. On arriving at Ngong Ping, you will have the opportunity to visit the Ngong Ping Village retail park which has been built especially as a tourist attraction for cable-car users. Children can be entertained at the Monkey’s Tale Theatre where they will be able to watch animated stories.Take in the Walking with Buddha exhibition for a multimedia introduction to the life of the man who became Buddha. Some categories of ticket allow you to enjoy these attractions for free, so have a look on the website before you go ahead and choose which option to go for.From Ngong Ping you'll be within walking distance of the Big Buddha, as well as of the Po Lin Monastery. These were tourist attractions in their own right long before the construction of the cable car, when they were much less easily accessible. You could walk over to these sights and then return to Ngong Ping in time for a sunset ride back to Tung Chung.The Ngong Ping 360 terminal is roughly a five-minute walk from Exit B of Tung Chung MTR station.
