Nervi is a unique and sought-after destination, so while no other neighbourhood is an exact replica, some areas in Liguria offer a similar blend of coastal beauty, relaxed atmosphere, and convenient access to walking paths. The best alternatives to Nervi are Santa Margherita Ligure and Sestri Levante.
Santa Margherita Ligure, located just east of Portofino, shares Nervi's elegant coastal feel. It boasts a beautiful harbour, a promenade lined with palm trees, and a variety of high-quality hotels and restaurants. The town centre is easily walkable, with shops and cafes along Via XXV Aprile and surrounding streets. It's particularly appealing for couples looking for a sophisticated seaside escape, offering boat trips to nearby Portofino and excellent access to the Portofino Natural Park's walking trails.
Sestri Levante, further east along the coast, offers a similar blend of picturesque bays and a historic town centre, though with a slightly more laid-back character than Santa Margherita Ligure. It's famous for its two distinct bays: the tranquil Baia del Silenzio (Bay of Silence) and the livelier Baia delle Favole (Bay of Fables). The old town, situated on a small peninsula between the two bays, is pedestrian-friendly and features narrow streets filled with boutiques and eateries. This area is a good fit for families, as the sandy beaches in both bays are excellent for swimming, and there are plenty of options for gelato and casual dining.
