Miami featuring street scenes, outdoor eating and a hotel

Sample the heady mix of vibrant culture and legendary nightlife, all set on magnificent beaches and untamed landscapes.

There is no doubt that Miami, Florida, lives up to its nickname “Magic City”. This was adopted in the 1920s as it described the rapid construction and development that transformed Miami almost overnight. With its tropical climate, stunning art deco architecture, buzzing nightlife and, of course, access to the glorious Miami Beach and South Beach, it’s no surprise that this city attracts visitors from all over the world, from honeymooners, to families and a large contingent of celebrities.

Behind the picture-perfect waterfront, you’ll find that Miami has much to offer, with luxury shops, gourmet restaurants and excellent museums and gardens, not forgetting the many legendary nightspots. Wander through the city’s diverse neighbourhoods, like the Miami Beach Architectural District, or the “Art Deco District”, as it is known. As its name suggests, you’ll discover America’s largest collection of resort architecture from the 1920s and 1930s, a myriad of beautiful pastel-coloured buildings.

If you head towards the downtown area, you’ll discover Little Havana, a district characterised by its large Cuban and Latin American community. Should you be lucky enough to be here at the beginning of March, you won’t be able to miss the Calle Ocho street festival, an exuberant annual celebration of Latin American music and culture.

For a great family outing, visit the Miami Seaquarium on Virginia Key island in Biscayne Bay. You’ll see hundreds of marine creatures, as well as the highlight of the attraction, the spectacular killer whale and dolphin shows. Alternatively, the Jungle Island zoo is another great family attraction. Located between downtown and South Beach, it is home to a collection of some of the rarest animals in the world.

To really sample local life, catch one of the Miami Heat team’s basketball matches, or head to the iconic Joe’s Stone Crab restaurant, hugely popular ever since its opening in 1913. Here you can taste some of the best fresh crab. To kick back and relax, nothing beats simply grabbing a towel and spending a few hours sunbathing and swimming on Miami Beach. Catch the beautiful sunset over the sea, before heading out to sample Miami’s legendary nightlife.
