Head to the Miami Museum of Science and Space Transit Planetarium for a truly fun-packed family day out. Dedicated to furthering the appreciation of science and technology as seen here on earth and in outer space, this complex will dazzle visitors of all ages with its interactive exhibits and stunning demonstrations.
Be prepared to get involved with exhibits such as Hurricanes where you’ll jump into the cockpit of a real P-3 Hurricane Hunter aeroplane, as well as building a house to see how it stands up against a storm. Learn about energy use and the fuels of the future with the Energy Tracker exhibits, including the Energy Dance Floor, which captures your energy as you dance to power a wild light show.
Find out about nature and the environment with Water, Wind, and Weather where state of the art display allows you to see any part of the globe with just a touch of the finger so you can track amazing weather patterns across the globe. Or pay a visit to the Wildlife Center, home to alligators, crocodiles and majestic birds of prey.
The museum also offers a packed schedule of shows. Transform yourself into a human yoyo and shoot yourself 3 metres into the air, marvel at the Live Science! demonstration of some of the most amusing and strange science concepts, or get right up close to a variety or reptiles – even touch an alligator, if you dare! – in the Wildlife Encounter.
To explore science beyond the confines of earth, head to the 231-seat Planetarium to see the stars and planets brought to life on the 20 metre diameter domed projection screen, complete with stunning surround sound and lasers. Discover why Pluto is no longer considered to be a planet, learn about the constellations that inspired Greek mythology, or if you visit on the first Friday of the month, you’ll be treated to a truly spectacular laser show.
All galleries and shows are included in the ticket price, and each day’s schedule is available on the museum’s website. Both the museum and planetarium are open every day, except Christmas Day and Thanksgiving days, and are located in the Vizcaya complex, just south of downtown Miami.
