Immerse yourself in the Miami marine life at this family-friendly, interactive attraction.
Miami may be a beach-front city, but unless you make the trip to the Miami Seaquarium you will not appreciate the beauty and intelligence of its sea-dwelling creatures. Perfect for adults and children alike, you will be enthralled by the interactive dolphin and sea lion shows, as well as the marine environment exhibits, whilst learning about the rescue and rehabilitation efforts that are key to ensuring the survival of these amazing creatures.
Opened in 1955, the Seaquarium was South Florida’s first marine life attraction, and now stands as the longest operating oceanarium in the US. It opened to a crowd of thousands, eagerly awaiting the innovative dolphin show in the two million-litre main tank. Its popularity has just grown from then on, attracting over 500,000 visitors a year.
Among the Seaquarium’s exhibits, you’ll discover the gentle and fascinating manatee, Florida’s state marine mammal, have the opportunity to feed the playful seals and sea lions, and in Discovery Bay, view sea turtles in their natural mangrove forest environment. The Crocodile Flats are home to Nile Crocodiles, fearsome predators that can reach nearly 5 metres in length when fully grown.
During your visit, enjoy direct interaction with some of the most tactile creatures. The Tropical Wings Exhibit allows you to feed the Southern and Cownose stingrays, before dipping your hand in the water to feel the gentle glide as they swim past. For a unique experience (at an additional cost), the Dolphin Odyssey will give you the experience of a lifetime as you take to the water with these amazingly intelligent creatures. Expect kisses, handshakes and a truly breath-taking ride as you hang on to the dorsal fin and follow your leader.
These animals love to show off, as you will see in the many displays on offer, including Killer Whale and Dolphin where you will be astounded by the grace of Lolita the killer whale and the white-sided dolphins as they interact and communicate constantly with each other and their trainer.
The Miami Seaquarium is located on Virginia Key Island, only a short drive from downtown Miami, and also well served by public transport. It is open 365 days a year.
