The hotel is located right in the middle of the Plaza de España area. It’s 20 meters walk from the metro, which is super convenient if you plan to go to Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu stadium. I took line 10 metro and 15/20 minutes later I was in front of the stadium!
Aside from that, it’s right next to the start of Gran Via, which is full of shops, restaurants and bars.

The property is nice and conveniently located in the city. We had an issue with our room that you wouldn’t expect with this kind of hotel but the staff dealt with it promptly and efficiently so we were very happy.

This is an excellent hotel in the best part of Madrid. Highly recommended. One knows what to expect in a 5 star hotel and the Wellington ticks all those boxes - fluffy towels, comfortable bed, excellent gym facilities and the like. The reason I keep coming back to the Wellington though is that it is emblematic of everything that is wonderful about Madrid. The hotel is decorated with Spanish art and the rooms have antique engravings in them. The staff in the hotel will address you formally but...

The best area to stay in Madrid is the central district encompassing Sol and Gran Vía, offering unparalleled access to the city's main attractions and an energetic atmosphere.
Sol is the absolute heart of Madrid, marked by the Puerta del Sol square and its famous clock tower. From here, you're within a short walk of the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, and the Mercado de San Miguel. The area is a bustling hub with countless shops, restaurants, and theatres, particularly along Gran Vía, often called Madrid's Broadway. It's incredibly well-connected by public transport, with several metro lines converging here.
For couples looking for a dynamic and engaging holiday, staying near Sol and Gran Vía is ideal. You'll be able to easily stroll to evening flamenco shows, enjoy late-night tapas, and experience the city's lively social scene. Many hotels in this area offer rooftop bars with impressive city views.
Solo travellers will also find this area highly convenient and engaging. With so many attractions, dining options, and transport links right on your doorstep, it's easy to explore independently and feel connected to the city's rhythm.

When is the best time to go to Madrid?
The best time to go to Madrid is during the spring (April to June) or autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the city is bustling with activity.
Spring in Madrid offers comfortable temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C. The city's parks, such as Retiro Park, are in full bloom, making it a lovely time for strolls and outdoor dining. You'll find many outdoor terraces open, great for enjoying tapas and drinks. This period also sees several cultural events and festivals, providing plenty to see and do.
Autumn brings similar mild temperatures, usually between 18°C and 28°C, and it's less busy, offering a more relaxed experience. The city's museums, like the Prado and Reina Sofía, are particularly enjoyable without the peak season queues. It's also an excellent time for food lovers, with many culinary events and new seasonal dishes appearing in restaurants.
While July and August are popular for holidays, Madrid can be very hot, often exceeding 35°C, which can make sightseeing less comfortable. Winters (November to March) are generally mild but can be chilly, with average temperatures around 5°C to 10°C, and some rain.
