Good hotel great location, public areas could do with some renovations

A wonderful property. Elegant and luxurious. Full of the charm of an older era but with every modern convenience and comfort of a true 5 star hotel of today. The management and staff were outstanding . Beautiful setting overlooking Funchal and the sea, surrounded by very pretty gardens. A perfect holiday

We had a very pleasant stay.

Excellent hotel. Quiet and relaxing. Good mix of nationalities. Average age group over 50's. Courtesy bus into town on the hour. Free wi fi excellent. The only thing to note is everywhere is very hilly and not walkable unless you are fit. Town centre is flat and very pretty with good shops.

Staying at the Residence was the best thing after 24 days touring mainland Portugal We slowed down our pace as much as we wanted. The garden area was beautifully kept and a pleasure to walk in. The hotel has indoor and outdoor swimming pools that are large we also had the use of a spa and a choice of another three different pools from the two large connecting hotels beside us. Excellent room with ocean views. All staff very nice and helpful. Definitely would return on next trip

I absolutely adored my stay. It’s got ideal views, perfect for relaxing. The food for breakfast is great, even had gluten free options. Same went for dinner, I ate some of the best meals of my trip here. Up the stairs outside is the start of one of the best beach trails I’ve ever walked. I can’t recommend highly enough!
