The check-in process took much longer than necessary, nearly a half-hour after I'd arrived at the hotel. While I was offered lobby bar drink coupons during the wait for my room to be ready, I would have been happier to just get into my room.
Additionally, while I was preparing to check-out, I was locked out of my room a couple of minutes before checkout time (even though my key had worked perfectly up to this moment) and needed to have hotel security let me into my room to grab my luggage. The person security was working with initially couldn't find any record of my stay, so it took about 10 minutes standing outside my room before I could get back in.
This is an amazing, historic property, but the guest rooms could do with some updating. The bathrooms are old, and the wood floors in my room were scratched and had large nicks showing raw, splintered wood. Also, there is such a large collection of purchasable items on the room desk, it limits use OF the desk. Additionally, other than the closet the room had no storage to speak of, and required everything to be stacked on closet shelves.
On the plus side, the bar staff, valet staff, and security agent were all very polite, friendly, and courteous. Also, the drinks and food at the bar were great.
This was my second stay at this hotel, but I don't think I'll stay there again. I enjoy the common areas, the pool area, and many of the amenities - but none of these make up for the guest rooms or the check-in/checkout issues.
