What is this place? What is it trying to be and who does it want to attract?! The biggest thumbs up was for the warmth and friendliness of the staff what they lacked in service expertise or indeed any kind of knowledge about the hotel they made up for in personality. We were exiled to the ‘family wing’ as the parents of two under 3’s. Don’t let the grand title fool you, this ‘wing’ was a creepy patched on 70’s (?) extension, across a run down car park and the back of the hotel into a labrynth of clinical feeling corridors up 2 flights of stairs (that was fun with all the detritus of small children and a pushchair… ) to a decent sized but painfully dingey room where the term ‘no frills’ comes to mind. The rooms felt half decorated - minimal storage, flimsy towels, no rugs or art. It was absolutely freezing and of course the radiators didn’t work. The bed was huge though and the bunk bed was one of the highlights of the trip for our 3 year old. The bathroom was cold and basic and the shower was a joke- a cheap chrome head that sprayed a fine, tepid mist over you and took forever to rinse under. So off the the restaurant we went where service was chaotic and the food was over priced and mediocre. Overall I felt like I was at a YMCA hostel and by the end of the trip I was exhausted and desperate to leave to get back to some basic comfort. I don’t think I would return.
