"Nice owners, pristine accommodations, very safe rural neighborhood, beautiful landscaping. We only stayed one night on our way to see friends, also visiting the big island. So we didn’t explore the area much. But it’s not far from the volcano and even closer to the hot springs and petrified forest."

"I wasn't familiar with those loud frogs all throughout Hilo but had no problems sleeping with the ceiling fans. Quiet in a mostly residential area but it wasn't difficult driving to nearby restaurants/stands or into town."
Octagonal Rainforest Oasis Near Hilo & Volcano – 2BD/2BA

"This was the second time my wife and I stayed here, and it was just as nice as in 2024. While it did rain quite a bit this time (not surprising for this area!) we still made use of the grill and firepit daily. We had a few special requests, like yoga mats and a clothes-drying rack, that Erin and Dane took care of quickly. We found the bathrooms very nice, with large mirrors, plenty of counter space, and the master bath having an interesting simulated lava floor.It's a rural area, and we saw plenty of birds, geckos, coqui frogs, chickens, and a couple mongooses wandering through. The neighborhood roosters will go off in the morning, but that let us not waste any daylight hours. Mosquitoes were not too bad, and we were able to eat outside every day. The WiFi was very good, and I could take care of some work emergencies on a remote desktop without problems.Overall, it was a nice place to spend a couple relaxed weeks. We would definitely come again the next time we're in the area."

"This is our second visit to this property and we intend to return again. This is on just over an acre and has a large variety of fruit trees (non happened to be ripe on our visit). The owner was quick to answer before arrival and during our stay. While using the bbq I ran out of gas and I contacted the owner and they brought me cylinders within 15 minutes. The cottage was very clean upon arrival and stocked with all we needed. I cooked a couple times and the kitchen works for me. At night, we slept with windows open and listened to Coqui frogs, they can be loud at times. The outdoor shower is clean and quite an experience when the rain is hitting the roof. We love to sit out in the gazebo in the evenings while it’s raining.I will warn those of us from the mainland of the mosquitoes. The first day we went into town and bought some spray and citronella candles as at dawn and dusk, they can be problems. The owners also have a second unit on the back of the property which is super cute and well done. There were no guests there during our stay, but there could be during yours. The two units are not close, but both have complete access to the full acre. We really enjoy this property and the host is wonderful."

"Our five night stay at Arthur’s house was just as it was advertised. It is beautiful and roomy enough for a large family. Arthur was very communicative and responded expediently to any of my questions or concerns. He provided beach accessories-paddle boards, life jackets, beach chairs and beach towels, etc. We enjoyed our stay.The only two negative things we experienced is the low water pressure in the master bedroom and emptying leftover foods into the compost bucket. The smell when I opened the bucket was so bad my granddaughter came out of the bedroom holding her nose as well as my daughters and other two grandchildren and spraying the house with air freshener. Other than that, it was a good stay at Puna Zen Botanical Garden Retreat. Mahalo, Arthur!"
