Find out what makes Ireland’s signature drink one of the most popular stouts in the world with this fascinating tour of a historic brewery.

Learn all about Ireland’s iconic drink at the Guinness Storehouse, the first Guinness brewery to be established. Immerse yourself in an atmosphere heavy with the aromas of hops and barley, as you discover the secrets behind the rich dark stout with its thick froth. You’ll learn the trick to pouring the perfect pint, and of course, get to sample its unique bitter taste.

This world-famous brand was born back in 1759 when Arthur Guinness Senior took on a 9,000 year lease on an old brewery. It only took 10 years before the stout was first left the shores of Ireland, and exports took off, and now you can order a pint of Guinness in most countries across the globe. The brewery remained in the family after Sir Arthur’s death in 1803, and processes have modernised with the times.

The seven-storey Guinness Storehouse was first opened in 2000, providing a fun and fascinating visitor experience, especially for the hordes of Guinness enthusiasts. When you step into the building, you find yourself at the bottom of the largest pint glass in the world. It would hold 14.3 million pints if full!

Work your way up through the first few floors to learn all about the brewing process and the history and development of the brand. Put your taste buds to the test in the Tasting Laboratory, where you’ll sample the different flavour components that are balanced together to create the unmistakable taste. The fourth floor is all about the final product. Staff in the Perfect Pint Bar will teach you the technique for pouring Guinness so you’ll always get the right balance between the black stout and the white froth. You even get a certificate to prove your skill.

Round off your trip with a meal in the Brewers Dining Hall, where Guinness is a key ingredient in the cooking. Or step up to the glass-walled Gravity Bar at the very top of the building, and take in the spectacular 360 degree views of Dublin, whilst savouring your drink.

The Guinness Storehouse is located at James’s Gate and is open daily. The ticket price includes a free pint for adults. Public transport is recommended if you are going to drink.
