Lighthouse featuring a lighthouse and interior views
Spend your days exploring some of Europe’s finest art and architecture before partying the nights away in the buzzing Scottish city of Glasgow.

Ever since the first citizens settled in this handsome spot on the banks of the River Clyde, it has been a centre for trade and commerce in the region. At 75 kilometres west of Scotland’s capital Edinburgh, the country’s largest city shows a very different side of Scottish life. Its 600,000-strong population are fiercely loyal to their hometown and know how to have a good time, no matter what the weather!

There are over 800 pubs and clubs across the city, great for a big night out or just sitting back and enjoying the craic. On high days and holidays, everyone gathers in central George Square to celebrate together.

Glasgow’s exuberance reflects the optimism of the Victorian entrepreneurs who shaped the way it looks today. The huge glasshouses in public gardens such as Queen’s Park and the Glasgow Botanic Gardens still stand as testament to their vision and philanthropy.

Alongside its reputation as a centre for nightlife, Glasgow boasts a whole host of things to do during the day. Start with a trip to one of the city’s many museums. The Hunterian, the Burrell Collection and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum all contain priceless collections gifted to the city by wealthy local residents.

For modern art and architecture, the Gallery of Modern Art and the Lighthouse are both well worth a visit. The whole family will enjoy getting involved in the experiments at the Glasgow Science Centre.

Most of the main attractions are within walking distance of each other in the city centre. There is a good bus and train network if you wish to travel further afield, and cars are also available for hire. Why not get out of the city for a day and visit the ancient fortress of Bothwell Castle.

To chill out closer to home, you could take a wander through Glasgow Cathedral and Glasgow Necropolis or enjoy a cup of tea in the warm glasshouse of the People’s Palace and Winter Gardens.

Experience Glasgow for yourself. With a wealth of art and culture at your fingertips and some of the best nights out in the country, you won’t be disappointed.
