Stop by the home of Ulysses S. Grant – the eighteenth president of the USA – for some old-fashioned American hospitality with a twist.

Escape from the city and get back to the land with a visit to Grant’s Farm. A true local landmark, this traditional homestead has been popular with locals and tourists for more than half a century.

The farm is particularly beloved by families, who flock here to see the animals. In the Tier Garten, come face to face with animals from near and far. You’ll find elephants, parrots, kangaroos and a range of reptiles. The farm has its own amphitheatre, with a full programme of shows where you’ll get to watch the animals show off their skills.

Look out for more familiar faces too, like the goats who you can get to know in the petting zoo. Other four-legged friends including deer, bison and zebras can be found roaming around the grounds of the Deer Park. Jump on to a tram to enjoy a free tour.

In the Budweiser Clydesdale Stables, you’ll find traditional plough horses. They may be massive but they’re very friendly, so feel free to give them a gentle pat on the nose. If you’re lucky, you might even get to see their gorgeous baby foals.

Step inside the home of one of America’s heroes, a key general in the civil war and later president of the USA: Ulysses S. Grant. He built the log cabin Hardscrabble on this land in 1855 and it has been lovingly restored to its original condition by the current owners – the Busch family.

This Busch family are fantastic brewers, so be sure to drop in to the Bauernhof for a free taste of Anheuser-Busch beer in the Hospitality Room. While you’re there, why not treat yourself to a delicious Bavarian meal. Specialities include freshly made pretzels and traditional Sauerkraut.

Entry to the farm is free and includes rides on the tram and shows in the amphitheatre. Grant’s Farm is open from Tuesday to Friday in the summer months and weekends during spring and autumn. Buses run from downtown St. Louis and paid parking is also available in the grounds.
