Combining Singapore's natural beauty and human ingenuity, this is one of the city's most unique attractions.
Located at the edge of the city overlooking the mouth of the Singapore River, the Gardens by the Bay complex is home to impressive landscapes of both the natural and artificial variety. Wander amidst towering man-made "supertrees" adorned with orchids and tropical flowers, explore domes filled with cultivated gardens, and even traverse the skies via one of the area's skywalks. The garden's supertrees stand at an impressive 50 metres and are covered with a variety of plantlife including orchids and ferns. Stay on until evening to see the Garden Rhapsody light show. Take the lift up along one of the supertree structures to get the best view possible as the whole complex comes alive with colour and shimmering, shifting artificial light. The other main attractions at the gardens are the two distinctive domes. The Flower Dome provides a welcome change from Singapore's humid environment by recreating the cooler temperatures of the Mediterranean and elsewhere and is home to myriad baobab trees and olive plants, as well as cacti and a variety of flowers. The Cloud Forest is a completely different experience, with the world's largest indoor waterfall as its centrepiece. Ascend easily to the top via the provided lifts before descending along one of the paths through the clouds. As you make your way down through orchids and carnivorous plants, stop along the way to check out the Black Box. This is one of the best places in Gardens by the Bay to learn about the complex's self-sustainability and ecological functions such as the solar power harnessed by the supertrees.Out in the grounds there are plentiful trails criss-crossing the gardens. Wander along at your leisure to see unique gardens filled with rare tropical plants or join one of the guided tours for something a little more structured and informative. The Singapore Gardens by the Bay complex is located right by the well-known Marina Bay Sands hotel. There is plenty of on-site car parking, which is free between midday and 2 p.m. The gardens are easily accessible via public transport, being on a number of bus routes and situated by the Bayfront MRT station. The gardens are open daily, and an entry fee applies to the domes and skywalks.
