Edinburgh Hideaway in the Pentland Hills near Balerno

"Serenio" ( Serene Studio ;) is purposely built to host our relatives when staying with us in the beautiful scenic surroundings of the Pentland Hills close to Edinburgh. More and more friends-of-friends have discovered our hideway so we are now managing it through this portal.

It's setting is idyllic and private in 2 acres of woodland also providing space to enjoy and for our chickens, goats and pig to roam. Located about 300m above sea level there are fantastic views over the hills down to the Firth of Forth with Edinburgh Castle in the distant skyline.

We are in the beautiful Pentland Hills Regional Park where you will have straight from "Serenio" access to an abundance of nature, hills, streams, lochs, hiking trails, mountain bike tracks etc, but most of all peace and beauty.

Nevertheless it is a short walk to the small nearby conservation villages with local shops, but where one can take the famous double-decker bus (every 10 min at daytime and also a Nightbus) which takes you in 30 minutes into the city centre. The City of Edinburgh is beautiful, historic and bustling with an abundance of (free) museums, architectonic beauty and cultural events.

In one sentence: raw nature and cosmopolitan experiences combined and we ourselves never fail to discover something new and interesting after the almost 20 years we now lived in Scotland.

It typically sleeps 2 and has en-suite bathroom facilities, but the setup is flexible with two double daybeds. With its full facilities and kitchen it is available to rent as self-catering accommodation.

For children there is plenty of play equipment scattered around the woodland including a massive trampoline, swings, tumble bar, flying fox and the various tree houses.

Superb accommodation in a wonderful setting
We had an excellent experience renting this chalet. Communication with the host and check in were both very easy and the chalet itself was a fantastic place to spend the weekend in. The location of the property was amazing and provided opportunities for really nice walks just 5 minutes away. Our stay was made even more special by Betsy the pig and the chickens who came to greet us most mornings. Overall we had a great time and would definitely recommend.

Lovely quaint hideaway spot in the woods near the reservoir
My boyfriend and I loved our stay in this cabin. Resy and her family were more than attentive when we had any issues, and their pet chickens and pig were just as friendly! The only downside is the 10-15 min walk up a twisty country road with no pathway (we felt a bit unsafe struggling up and down the hill especially with suitcases).

Fantastic!
We were made very welcome. The 'Hobbit house' as we nicknamed it was perfect. It had everything we needed and was very warm & cosy. Our grandchildren who live near by came to see us and loved how much there was to do in the garden. The zip wire was a big hit. Wonderful break in beautiful surroundings.

The perfect holiday
I had such an amazing time there! It was dreamy! Thw owners are ao nice and welcoming. They will help you if they can with anything you need. The place is very clean and gorgeous. Not to mention that it is so close to Pentland Hills Regional Park. If you love nature and animals, that's the perfect deatination for a peaceful holiday. Their pets are the cutest! And you can play with them and feed them. I definitely want to go back!

Perfect hideaway, great location, great host
This hideaway was the perfect getaway from the city. The hut was very well-equipped with everything we could ask for, while located in an ideal setting for walks and hikes. Although it was so close to Edinburgh city, it was a proper rural retreat. Resy and her son were lovely hosts: they were very approachable, easily contactable, the directions they gave to the house were flawless and they even left a welcoming breakfast hamper to boot. Overall we were overjoyed with our stay, and hope to be back soon.

Lovely chalet fully equipped for a comfortable city-escape!
The property is very clean and with all the possible comfort: tv, dish washer, kitchen, comfortable shower, comfortable bed, very good heating system...amazing outside space to play or drink coffe! the location makes it the perfect place to escape the city and enjoy the nature. With a short walk it’s possible to take the bus to go to the city of Edinburg which, I didn’t know, it’s beautiful. The landlady Resy gave us two bikes and we went to the closest shoot in just 10min. The villane of Balerno is very small and well maintained. I am very happy with the entire experience, I highly recommend it. Resy also prepared for us home made bread and brownies and surprised us with some chocolate- rabbit for Easter. Thank you very much we hope to come back soon!

I can not rate highly enough. The place is wonderful
We have just had 4 days of bliss. The lovely family welcomed us with genuine friendliness and were pleased to help in any way. They introduced us to the pet pig, chickens, goats and rabbits who were adorable and became a big part of the charm of the place. The accommodation is superb. There is a welcome breakfast basket and the use of a few larder items if you have forgotten anything. The kitchen is well equipped and even has a dishwasher and tablets. There is plenty of room and features the use of two double beds that convert back to sofas but we had plenty of room when we left ours out. The accommodation would suit a family with younger children who are prepared to share a double bed behind a curtain. You all share the same space. Outside you will find a trampoline, a zip wire, a tree swing, a slide/swing set and a set of stocks (I was tempted). There was also other play equipment and it was all close enough for you to watch over the children as they play. The location is rural and would suit walkers but it is close to a lovely village which is easily reached by car or by foot. If Edinburgh city is part of your plans the accommodation is close enough to travel in but far enough away if you want peace and quiet. I can not recommend this place highly enough.

A Hygge hideaway with animals
I really loved staying here for 3 nights and was sad to leave. Resy, the owner was so lovely and welcoming. We literally had everything we needed while we were there, it is such a beautiful place. Every day we got a visit from the chickens who were a real highlight of the stay as was Betsy the pig. This is not your typical holiday home, it is a hideaway built for Resys family on her farm and it really shows. I thank her very much for letting us stay, it was a real treat. I would recommend to anyone but especially those who love animals.

Merci.

Lovely. Beautiful. Wonderful.
This little house, which isn't such little as it seems, lies in one wonderful and quiet place. The house owner is a very kind and amiable person and also very helpfully. It was us a pleasure to stay a few days. The beds are comfortable, there is enough space for 3 to 4 people, the bathroom is absolutly sufficient, the kitchen is very good equipped. You can travel by bus (Line 44 aktually 1,70 p.P.) in 20 min. to Edinburgh. You have to pay exact with coins. The bus drives every 10 min or so. Or you can hike or cicle to the lake and nature near by. And when you don't wanna go, you can just watch the chickens and goats or the little wild rabbits each morning in front of the house. Price-performance ratio is very good. Preis Leistung: sehr gut. I think we will see us again! Hearty greetings, Maik and Melisande

Einfach SUPER
Alles in Allem einfach Super !
