Immerse yourself in Californian glamour whilst you enjoy the pristine sands of this top-rated seaside paradise.

Coronado Beach, a three kilometre stretch of pristine white sand sparkling with jet-black mica, is one of California’s most popular holiday destinations. Ever since it was established in 1880, it has attracted a glamorous mix of the rich and famous, including Hollywood celebrities, whilst also perfectly catering for family groups. Once you see it, you understand exactly why Coronado is always rated amongst the best beaches in America.

The beach itself is split into four sections, each with its own character. Discover the hull of the Monte Carlo, a sunken gambling ship, at low tide just off South Beach. Central Beach lies in front of the glamorous Ocean Drive, whilst North Beach is the place to spot surfers or have a romantic evening barbecue.

Try your hand at the many different water sports on offer. You can have a go at anything from water skiing to wake boarding, or kayaking and sailing. For something more peaceful, look out for the yoga classes on Central Beach on Sunday mornings. Otherwise, simply relax, kick off your shoes and stroll along the perfect sands.

Behind Central Beach, you’ll find the magnificent Hotel del Coronado. The lobby of this impressive 1888 mansion even featured in the 1959 film Some Like it Hot, and the hotel’s list of visitors include some of America’s most famous names, from Thomas Edison to Bill Clinton. The hotel is set amongst Ocean Boulevard’s decadent mansions, luxury shops and gourmet restaurants, epitomising California’s glamorous appeal.

Coronado Beach is just a short drive from downtown San Diego across the Coronado Island Bay Bridge, and there is free parking on Ocean Boulevard. Alternatively take the water taxi or ferry, just a 15 minute trip to the Ferry Landing area. Before you even reach the beach, here you’ll find art galleries and boutiques as well as cafés and restaurants.
