"We had this place booked for over a year and stayed 8 days. The wait was worth it!!!! Such a gorgeous place. So nice waking up every morning to the ocean. The spot was perfect for swimming and snorkeling and overall just relaxing. The host gave us a list of places, foods, activities and all of it was great! In our first day we even saw turtles. I would definitely come back here again!"

"Terry's condo is great in every way. It's clean, well equipped, has an amazing view of the nearby clear lagoons, and a swimming pool ready for lap swims. So much attention to detail made our days at the condo perfect. There is a nicely appointed kitchen, living and dining areas, gorgeous balcony, queen bed and full bathroom. Outside on the balcony there is a storage chest filled with snorkel masks and fins, boogie boards, and folding beach chairs. There are beach towels, sunscreen, and an entire cupboard of items that may come in handy from shampoo to bandaids. The bed was comfortable and the ocean breeze coming through the open windows made for restful nights. A great experience."

"Awesome location right next to Carl Smith Beach. It's an older complex but the unit looked just as advertised and had been renovated. There is only a small portable ac unit in the main bedroom. It did get a bit warm in the afternoons. The washer and dryer are located down the hall not actually in the unit. We enjoyed spending evenings and mornings on the lanai and watching sea turtles on the beach. The condo came well stocked with beach chairs and umbrella."

Epic Oceanfront Penthouse with Best Views in Hilo!

"The apartment was really nice with high-end finishes. There were an assortment of condiments and cooking oils and things left by previous guests and that was helpful. The lack of in-unit laundry and AC was a little disappointing, but he did warn us. The description really was accurate. The views were absolutely amazing, and we saw a huge double rainbow. We weren't able to actually swim in the ocean lagoons cuz we didn't bring proper water shoes, and it was way too deep for my 6-year-old. We did see a sea turtle though!We had really looked forward to the jogging trails through the jungle, and did not find them until our way out on the very last day. They are on the opposite side of the building from the beach, and they look like they would be lovely.The host was very responsive, he had the apartment available early and responded quickly when I had concerns. We really only had two issues. First, we got stuck in the elevator. It was only about 10 minutes, but it felt like an eternity with two hungry children. Luckily, the elevator emergency button call does work. The absolute worst thing though, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is the road noise. I know the host cannot control it at all, but if I had any idea how loud it was, I would not have chosen that spot. So many cars with their stereos at full volume, so many people in the park with stereos at full volume. I couldn't hear the ocean or the rainforest for the people. Beautiful for sure, but not peaceful."

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a great time at Maunaloa Shores. The facility has what you need - including a nice and clean pool. It is a great location, as well, right next to Carlsmith Beach. We ended up spending more time at Onekahakaha Beach (1 mile away) because it was great for young kids. The unit has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The unit was impeccably clean, too."
