Hotel Hegra staff were amazing. Special mention to Zia and Paulo for their efforts going above and beyond. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend.

The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The room was on the smaller side—so if you’re expecting a large, American-style hotel, this may not be for you—but it was perfect for those who appreciate old-world charm and a location right on the canal. The hotel is well-situated, about a 10 to 15-minute walk from many major sites. The stairs are steep and narrow, but still manageable even if you have mild mobility issues—just something to keep in mind. The only downside was that staff is only available from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, which made coordinating check-in and check-out around flight times a bit more challenging. However, overall it was a pleasant experience and a great spot for exploring the area.

Wonderful hotel. Clean. Staff was very friendly and professional. They checked our baggage for no charge. There is no elevator in this hotel - the staff brought our heavy bags up to our room. Keep in mind there is also no A/C here. Overall the hotel was exceptional and a very nice place to stay.

Charming Hotel with Wonderful Staff

Great little hotel + PERFECT location —definitely looks bigger in the photos, but it was clean and well-kept. The twin beds were much narrower than U.S. twin sizes and very firm (borderline rock-hard), so something to be aware of if comfort is a top priority. That said, the bathroom was modern and spotless, and the staff was absolutely amazing—friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We had a quick stay, but appreciated the hospitality!

Very nice hotel with lots of character. Very close to attractions, bus, taxis and Central Station. Right along the canal with a pretty walk. Tons of great places to eat all around and not too touristy.

Had an excellent stay at the Hotel Hegra. Very quiet despite being in the city center. We were on the top floor so it can get a bit warm in the room but that was no issue

We had a room for 4 people which was quite big and quite a lot of floor space considering the 4 beds. The hotel is very quiet of a night and we were the first room at the stairs so we were expecting noise but it was silent. The service was lovely and the location fantastic

I really enjoyed my 4 nights at this hotel. The rooms are very small but the location is great. There are no amenities in the rooms but the front desk staff will make you a coffee if you ask for it.

The best part of our stay was the position of the hotel. It was perfectly central within walking distance of all the popular museums, bars and restaurants. The canal view from the room was 100% as shown on the booking site… lovely to wake up to in the morning. As others have said the stairs are very steep and shallow, but this is clearly addressed in the description so not a problem for us. If you want to stay in a period property this is to be expected. Sadly the not so good part of our stay was the inexcusable lack of cleanliness. It was absolutely awful! There was no housekeeping carried out during our stay other than a new toilet roll was replaced. We had to ask twice for clean towels. The attached photographs show how utterly disgusting the room was. Totally unacceptable. We would have moved to a different hotel if we had £3000 euros spare at such short notice.
Dead flies in light fitting directly above bed.
What appeared to be either lipstick or spit smeared down the door mirror.
Sticky fingerprints and handprints around the door handle.

Excellent location on the canal in lovely part of town. Historic old building which meant extremely narrow winding steep staircase with no lift to 3rd floor room. Really small double room. En-suite so small with only hand washing sink. Reception only open until 6pm. Really friendly staff. So mixed bag but we enjoyed our stay.

Incredibly small family room - 4 single beds crammed into a space that is really a bed that only really has sufficient space for a double/queen bed. Certainly no space to comfortably store belongings - we had to stack open cases on the floor in front of the window facing away from the canal (which opened out onto a damp flat roofed area). Small spaces are to be expected in historic buildings but this really isn't a family room - very disappointing!
