San Diego is one of my favorite cities and I'm always happy when I get a chance to go. Usually stay at a Marriott or Starwood Hotel (W, US Grant) but this time they were way too expensive. So when I got a great price on The Keating Hotel and saw the positive reviews I figured I'd try it. I was very pleased with the room. Different from the hotel chains and had kind of an industrial studio look and feel. It was very large and comfortable with great amenities. You don't see Bang & Olafsen components in many hotel rooms. The bed was really nice and I slept well there. My only complaint with the room is the shower is one of those types with an open half wall of glass - I just prefer one with a door you can close so cool air stays out. Otherwise it was fine. Also the shower and sinks are open to the entire room which is unusual. There is a curtain you can pull in front to separate that area from the rest of the room if you want.
There staff was great - really friendly and professional. Appreciated that they called a cab for me when I checked out! I would be quite happy to stay at The Keating again and hope I will!
I would recommend this hotel for its cleanliness, beautiful rooms, rooftop breakfast and, if you're into night life, its location. I wasn't impressed until I got into my room. The buildings has those features like high ceilings and glass-paneled doors with beautiful wood accents. We had three people in our party and were given a free upgrade which included an additional room and bathroom. The arrangement of the rooms was very cool, like it crossed over a tiled hallway, so it made the room really long. I loved the bathrooms that have marble and wood accents in combination with the old-school white mosaic tile.
I was glad to be on the 6th floor where we didn't hear the 2:00 am partying on the streets, but that's just because I'm too old and tired to out partying all night. In the morning the rooftop is open for breakfast and the view is lovely. Have the valet park your car for $32 a day because that's cheaper than what I did which was the next door lot for $20 for ten hours. It's like that in the whole area.
The Bristol is a clean, well-run and comfortable hotel. It is a boutique hotel, so there are not a lot of extras, e.g. no free continental breakfast. But the rooms are large, the beds are comfortable, the staff are helpful and accommodating, and the hotel restaurant is quite good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn't want to spend an excessive amount on their hotel bill.
There is not pool. There is a fitness center with limited equipment; the equipment is in good condition, but there are only hand weights and running machines. The lobby has several seating areas and a baby grand piano. The Bristol is located at 1st and Broadway, which is centrally located; its very convenient.
Really nice hotel, exceptional staff and service, rooftop bar and pool were great, concierge was fantastic, if you need anything this is the guy to see! we were on the 8th floor at the back, not bad view, rooms were very well laid out, only con was the bed, frame stuck out beyond the mattress and made for some bruises/cuts on the shin. Call the front desk for ice, they had it to your room lickety split.
