Mountain Weekend
Spacious and well appointed guest house with spectacular view. Great for large group. Sleeps 9+ but only 4 bedrooms. Hosts were friendly and helpful. Not really in Fernie.

Family holiday in the snow
Property was great host were friendly and eager to please. If you prefer giving vacation money to hard working individuals that use their own money to supply vacationers with good facilities in a nice quiet area with a very natural environment try this place. Special thx to host for letting us park our snowmobiles in heated shop at night to thaw out during the colder than normal week. 👍👍

friends/family getaway
We stayed for a skiing/sledding trip. The property was very clean and had everything one would need. The hosts are very welcoming and gracious. We were 4 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs….. the space was plenty big for all of us. We would definitely return. Thanks again Jo-Anne, John and Dawson.

Fabulous Property
This home is located equidistant from Fernie and Kimberly Mountains. It was clean and spacious. It was a very comfortable home. The owners were onsite and very friendly. We loved our experience and would be looking to rent it again if we return to ski in the future.

Awesome Way To Close Out Summer 2022!!
One of the best properties to visit! Hosts, Joanne and John are awesome and ready to make this one of the most positive vacations sites. The house has every convenience one requires and the location is quiet and has such lovely scenery. We visited in June and had such an amazing time we brought our friends back for the week. We all can't wait to come back next year!!

Fabulous Vacation & Get Away In Style!
We stayed at this amazing property whose hosts ( Joanne and John) were nothing but fantastic!! We wanted a quiet get away in a clean, amazing property and we got way more then expected. The house had everything we could have wanted and needed. The hot tub was amazing, especially at night in the mountains. We did a lot of hiking as there is a lot of places to walk to. Cranbrook is only about a 30 minute drive to if you need to get into town. The site pictures are excellent but they do not do justice to this property. I would give it a 10 out of 10 if I had the option to score that high. We would definitely return if the schedule allows!!

Exactly what I was looking for
Tucked away on a hillside, serene, spectacular view, and amazing experience. Oodles of room for us 4 adults and two dogs. We love the outdoors and this place had plenty of room to explore and lots of places around to visit. The fire pit, hot tub, and patio heater gave us several ways to enjoy the property in the winter while staying warm. JoAnne and John were super friendly and accomodating. We have one dog that is very fear aggressive, and they were awesome in working that out with their dog Dawson, who was incredibly tolerant when our dogs met by surprise (my fault). I would have loved to hang out with Dawson more, he just melts into your hands. The house was very clean, and the beds were comfortable. We had more than enough kitchen amenities. The layout of the house would make having a couple families with kids easy. Great stay, keeping this one on my favorites list!

Wonderful Trip!
Joanne’s property was one of the cleanest home rentals we have experienced. It was well stocked, spacious and the mountain views are incredible. Dawson was a great tour guide 🐾. We hope to return soon!

Perfect location
The property has a good location and very clear. Technically it has only 3 bedrooms not 5. The upper level has a master bedroom with the king size and small room with the double and single beds. The lower level has an open concept with the two theater partitions so there is no privacy, plus the concrete floor is not worm and comfortable. It feels like you're in basement but it could be advantage in summer time. Upper floor has a huge open area to celebrate something. Otherwise it is good house for 2 or maximum 3 families.

Beautiful setting and amazing hosts!!
From the moment we arrived it felt like we were visiting old family friends! Joanne made sure we had everything we needed, and the house was clean, cozy, and stocked with all the necessities. We have 8 children and everyone slept so well! Our children felt safe to roam the property, and we knew if we needed something Joanne or John would be right there! The views are stunning, so if you are needing to unplug, this is a great place to do it! We are already dreaming of our next stay!

We've decided we're moving in permanently!
I booked this sweet little get away for my sisters 30th birthday, Jo-Anne was amazing and let us check-in early so we could decorated the place before my sister arrived. She was so surprised and thoroughly enjoyed her weekend get away. There were 8 of us in total and we were all able to sleep comfortably. Beds were really comfortable, property was absolutely lovely, and the views are incredible. This place comes with all the essentials, all you need to bring is groceries. :) We hope to return in the future, two nights was not long enough for us!

The place is huge it’s got good parking massive kitchen,dinning area has lots cups plates and cook wear The hosts are the most friendly people u ever met and were supper help full and easy going it’s a little farther out but trust me u won’t be disappointed. Great home away from home
We stayed here for a few days in August, and had the most relaxing, chill time! Our two girls shared one of the upstairs bedrooms and our son got a king bed to himself. My husband and I shared the king in the lower level. The beds were all very comfortable. The house is nice and spacious, and has tons of outdoor areas to relax in. Picnic tables downstairs by the BBQ, a nice patio with comfy furniture upstairs, and a fire pit in the yard with lots of seating. The kids loved the hot tub, and the owners even set up a sprinkler for the kids to run through! Great vacation - we would stay here again for sure!

Country Getaway
Our family of six adults, four children and three dogs was very pleased with the accommodations. Our hosts, Jo-Anne and John, were welcoming and made us feel at home. The house has two floors, providing separation for a larger group, and has a spacious kitchen/living/dining room with a large deck overlooking the mountains. The beds and furniture are comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked, and everything is in good working order--including wi-fi and a much welcomed hot tub. Here, you can hike right from the house. For people looking for peace and quiet in a country setting, and a place for family and friends to gather, this property fits the bill nicely.

Fantastic home, large enough for our family of 9 to comfortably fit, everything we needed.
This was a fantastic property, the beds were comfy, the view was beautiful, and we had everything we needed in the kitchen to cook our thanksgiving dinner. Dawson was a wonderful puppy and a great tour guide for us, and he got along great with our puppy. We enjoyed the lovely hot tub as well as sitting around the campfire with ample seating. This is a great place and the location is just beautiful

Quiet getaway in the East Kootenays

Wonderful stay, loads of thoughtful details
We stayed for 2 days in early October. We really loved our stay and the dozens of thoughtful details that the hosts have provided that make this a delightful stay. The lower level rooms open onto the hot tub. The floor is concrete but it is heated! Warm floors! It is part of the central heating system that the owners have installed that make the mornings great! The hot tub has a great view of the mountains, is just 2 steps out the lower door and has a bundle of towels available for the guests. The rest of the baths in the home have great bundles of towels, lots of soap, kleenex and make up remover. It is the little thoughtful details that make a stay here so relaxing and easy. There is a cupboard full of spices for cooking, lots of pots and pans, dishes and silverware for an army of guests. We love the location and there were great hiking trails in the area. The owners loaned their beautiful rescue dog for our hike and we had great fun with his exuberance and loved laughing at him dashing up and down the trails with us. I am heartily recommending this lovely home as a perfect get away.

The property is peaceful and quiet. Surrounded by forest but a large cleared yard to walk around with dog. Plenty of patios to relax on and enjoy the fresh air. Also went for walks through the nearby forest and hills. Lots of deer prancing around, which gave the dog some fun. The carriage house is spacious and well stocked with amenities. Unfortunately smoke precluded the mountains view, but enjoyed side trips to Jaffray for golf, Cranbrook and Fort Steele. The owners and their dog were very friendly and welcoming. Relaxing Vacation in God's Country
Very much enjoyed vacationing with extended family at the Takala's property. Nice to see all the wildlife even when we were making noise on the mountain trails. Great mix of relaxing, quiet evenings by the backyard fire and having a great time on dirtbikes and quad during the day. Jo-Anne, you guys have done an awesome job with your acreage, hope to come back again sometime!

The Johnson Experience June 2018
What superlatives could I use to describe our stay at the Tamarack Hills vacation rental? Wonderful, excellent, luxurious or first rate In a word the facility and its location proved to be awesome in every way. Jo-Anne was a perfect host, for whom nothing was too much trouble. The locale proved exactly what was needed for our family gathering. A rating of five out of five seems low, a 6 might better describe our experience. The cost of our rental was just right for our week stay for the seven of us. None of us wouldn't for a minute hesitate to highly recommend a stay at "Tamarack Hills". A really big thank you to Jo-Anne Takala from the Johnson's 2018 Retreat “The Road Less Traveled”

We had the most amazing family getaway in such beautiful surroundings.
Our stay could not have been more peaceful. We had all the comforts of home and beyond. This was a great way to spend our Easter holiday with our family. The cabin was everything we could have hoped for and more! The area was great for walking and hiking and the scenery and wildlife was amazing. Excellent place for a home away from home
This was our first experience with a VRBO rental, and it was so wonderful. If you want a beautiful secluded place with lots of areas to explore, this is it. We had 3 small children with us and 6 adults, and all slept comfortable in cozy beds and plenty of room. Jo-Anne and John were warm hosts and have put a lot of thought into this house. We would love to come back in the summer and see what the property looks like when everything is green, but a winter wonderland it truly is.
