The Drisco Hotel is a piece of living history, from its founding in 1866 as the Jerusalem Hotel, where weary early travelers to the Holy Land could stay and rejuvenate their tired bodies in luxury - like Mark Twain who wrote a good bit of his famous travel book "The Innocents Abroad" in the hotel's bar. This boutique hotel in south Tel Aviv has been beautifully restored and improved by the new owners. It is down a quiet street in the famous American-Germany Colony of Old Tel Aviv, with the finest breakfast, brunch and dinner fare in Israel in its magnificently restored restaurant & bar, home to the famous George & John Restaurant run by Chef Tomer Tal, one of Israel's finest. Even better was the individual attention and unparalleled service we received from all the staff, from the General Manager, Hezi, who cheerfully checked on us at breakfast every morning (a sumptuous feast), ran the nightly happy hour on the beautiful balcony, and directed the in-depth tours of the hotel and the surrounding American-German Colony historic buildings and churches (not to miss). The room itself was magical, from the marble bathroom, the floral bouquet, the thoughtful bottle of wine and the lovely porch for drinking morning espresso. This was truly the finest hotel stay of my many travels, beating hand's down such iconic establishments like The Grosvenor House London, The Hotel Ritz Madrid, and The Waldorf in NYC. Hezi, Roni and I will be back soon, very soon. Thank you again! Shalom.
